Urge Retailer To Take Animal Welfare Seriously

Aldi-by-Mike-Mozart

Target: Tom Daunt, CEO of Aldi Australasia

Goal: Demand that Aldi stop making animal jokes and take animal welfare seriously instead by ending its exploitation of caged chickens.

Major food retailer Aldi has been slammed for a Facebook post encouraging customers to share their favorite animal joke while the company continues to sell eggs from caged chickens. Hundreds of customers have responded to the post by calling Aldi out on their nonexistent animal welfare policy and urging the group to stop selling caged eggs.

While exploiting chickens for eggs is always cruel, caged chickens suffer even more than their free-range counterparts. They are packed tightly into cages smaller than a sheet of paper, too crowded to even turn around or access food and water. As a result of this many of them die, suffer serious injuries, or are attacked by other frustrated chickens. Moreover, they never experience the outdoors or even natural light.

Sign this petition urging Aldi to stop making animal jokes and start taking animal welfare seriously, beginning with an end to the cage age for its chickens.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Daunt,

Aldi has recently come under fire for asking customers to share their “best animal joke” on social media. Users were quick to respond that Aldi’s animal welfare policy is a joke in light of your group continuing to sell eggs from caged chickens. Exploiting animals for food is always a cruel business, but Aldi is choosing to abuse chickens even further by promoting companies who pack them tightly into cages where they suffer tremendously.

It is time for Aldi to ban caged eggs from its shelves. We also urge you to vastly improve your group’s animal welfare policy to ensure that the animals who supply the food products you profit from suffer the least amount possible.

Sincerely,

  1. How ignorant. I am NOT shopping my local ALDI. ALDI just lost a big customer, so glad I got informed.

  2. Aldi should be ashamed- boycott Aldi! Everyone should be buying free-range!
