Justice for Homeless Man Allegedly Killed by Police

San-Francisco-Homeless-by-Amanda-Kelso

Target: George Gascón, San Francisco District Attorney

Goal: Conduct a full investigation into the fatal shooting of a homeless man by cops and punish them harshly if guilty.

San Francisco police reportedly shot and killed a homeless man who was harmlessly kicking a soccer ball, according to witnesses. The police claim that the man, Luis Gongora, charged at them with a knife. One witness says she heard “get on the ground” and saw the victim on the ground with his head crouched between his knees. Two officers then reportedly started shooting beanbags and live ammunition. Statements made by several others who witnessed the shooting from their windows have reportedly been consistent in that the victim wasn’t charging or threatening police in any way.

According to people living in the apartments as well as other homeless people, Gongora was a kind, friendly man who’d never raise a knife to anyone.

This seems to be a repeat of another incident where San Francisco police shot and killed Mario Woods, who they claim raised a knife at them. A video showed a different story and the shooting has been under investigation ever since. It would appear that the police are making a habit of claiming the people they shoot were threatening them with knives. Demand that a full investigation be conducted into the murder of Luis Gongora, and if the officers are found guilty of unnecessary force, demand they be punished to the fullest extent.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Gascón,

A homeless man was shot and killed by police who claim he was charging them with a knife. Many witnesses, however, have stated that the victim did not raise a knife or charge at the cops, but instead was on the ground obeying their commands when they blasted his body with gunfire.

San Francisco police just used this same knife-wielding excuse when they allegedly shot and killed Mario Woods, though video footage showed a different story. We demand that Luis Gongora’s murderer be brought to justice and punished if guilty of using unnecessary force.

Sincerely,
