Target: Comedian Jon Stewart and wife Tracey Stewart
Goal: Thank the Stewarts for helping to rescue a bull that escaped from a slaughterhouse truck.
A bull recently escaped from a truck while being transported to a slaughterhouse in Jamaica, New York. Thanks to Jon and Tracey Stewart, with help from other advocates in the Farm Sanctuary organization, this bull will live the rest of its life on a sanctuary instead of being slaughtered.
According to CNN, the bull, who was later named Frank Lee because of his Alcatraz-like prison break, headed for a grassy field on the campus of York College as soon as he broke out of the truck. He was then wrangled by police and taken to an animal care facility. Farm Sanctuary, an organization that fights against factory farming, negotiated the release of the bull and notified the Stewarts, who are official Farm Sanctuary partners. The couple then drove to Brooklyn to meet Frank and take him to their farm sanctuary in New Jersey.
Jon and Tracey Stewart have long been champions of animal rights. The couple had cared for over a dozen animals on their farm before they announced last year that they were starting a partnership with Farm Sanctuary and would be opening their property to more rescued animals.
Factory farm animals live a miserable life and suffer a cruel death. Thanks to Jon and Tracy Stewart, and the animal advocates at Farm Sanctuary, Frank Lee will not have to suffer that fate. Sign the petition below to commend the Stewarts for their actions.
Dear Mr. & Mrs. Stewart,
I want to thank you for helping to rescue a bull that recently escaped from a slaughterhouse truck in New York City. As I am sure you are aware, factory farms are cruel places in which thousands of animals suffer. Most people are unaware of the suffering that takes place in the farming industry. You, however, have repeatedly taken initiative to end animal suffering. Your dedication to educating people about the realities of factory farming, and to rescuing animals from the farming industry, is admirable.
Animals like Frank Lee are lucky to have advocates like you and everyone else who works for Farm Sanctuary. The fact that you use your fame and recognition to spread such an important message is commendable. You set an impressive example for the rest of the world to follow. I am sure you will continue to do good work like this for the rest of your lives, so that more animals like Frank can be saved from the torments of the farming industry.
