Prevent Abuse by Installing Surveillance Cameras in All Slaughterhouses

Target: French Agriculture Minister, Stéphane Le Foll

Goal: Install surveillance cameras in all slaughterhouses in order to prevent more cases of extreme cruelty.

Footage has emerged of animals being horrifically abused at yet another French slaughterhouse. Footage of a slaughtering facility in Mauléon-Licharre shows sheep reportedly being bled while still conscious, and Easter lambs less than 45 days old being hacked and butchered alive. This certified-organic abattoir, which slaughters “local produce” and also bears the “red label” specifying that animals are not battery-reared, proves that meat production is always a cruel process, whether cage-free, local or organic.

Similar acts of cruelty have been filmed at two other slaughterhouses in Alès and Le Vigan in Southern France by animal rights group L214. It is time the government takes immediate action to thoroughly inspect the country’s slaughtering facilities through the installation of CCTV cameras in all abattoirs. Sign this petition urging France’s Agriculture Minister to take urgent action on this matter and to also take steps to encourage farmers to move towards plant-based and cruelty-free food production.

Dear Minister Foll,

Shocking acts of cruelty have been filmed in the Mauléon-Licharre abattoir. This footage shows animals being bled and butchered while still conscious.

It is high time you took action to ensure the transparency of these facilities. Please guarantee the constant monitoring of all slaughterhouses across the country by urgently installing CCTV cameras in abattoirs nationwide. In light of these disturbing acts, I also urge you to encourage France’s farmers to move towards plant-based and cruelty-free food production.

If people just have to kill, it can be done without animal suffering. We must push harder for them to try harder.

  3. Jennifer Barlow says:

It would set a good example, especially if it was successful and done cost efficiently. Then the slaughterhouses here in the US would have no excuse not to install them.

  4. Marcio Alvarez says:

Cameras every where! Just like in the streets! 24/7 365/6.
