Praise Jail Sentence for NFL Player Who Starved Dog to Death

Target: Scott D. Shellenburger, Baltimore County State Attorney

Goal: Applaud jail time for NFL player who starved his dog to death.

Former Ravens NFL player Terrence Cody was recently found guilty of negligence in relation to his canary mastiff that starved to death. The Baltimore Ravens cut him after he was indicted for animal cruelty. This was a positive step forward for the NFL, which is known for lax punishments in the case of unjustifiable aggression and violence off of the field.

The former football player was indicted for animal cruelty following a visit to the vet in which Cody presented a dog that was so emaciated that it was barely breathing. Needless to say, the poor dog died a short time later and the end of Cody’s Baltimore football career followed shortly thereafter. As a well-paid football player, there was no excuse for Cody’s dog to be starving.

Even if extenuating circumstances prevented Cody from caring for the dog or feeding it properly, he could have given it up for adoption or to a shelter. This is simply another example of a football player that appears to lack compassion for others.

All too often, wealthy celebrities wiggle their way out of justice and penalties. This time, the man responsible for the death of his dog will serve jail time. Please sign this petition applauding the state attorney for sentencing Cody to jail instead of letting him off with a fine.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Shellenburger,

I am writing this letter in a state of relief and contentment. As you know, former Ravens NFL player Terrence Cody was indicted on charges of animal cruelty just a few months before he was found guilty of animal negligence. In this most unfortunate situation, Cody let his dog starve to the point that he was barely breathing.

As an NFL player, Cody did not have the excuse of not being able to afford adequate food for a pet. As you know, if he found himself unable to care for the dog, he could have easily given it away. He instead decided to keep the starving dog, only taking it to the veterinarian when it was on the verge of death.

Unfortunately, NFL players have a bad reputation for disregarding other life off of the field, and this animal cruelty charge does not help to dispel these stereotypes. I want to thank you for refraining from letting Cody off with a fine, but instead letting him do time behind bars to think about the wrong he did.

Sincerely,

  1. Wow!! Really??? Just 9 months huh??? What a crock of s×××!!!! I am not praising anyone for this horrific travesty of justice??? Justice you say??? Omg!!!

  2. Only nine months! The NFL should have not only fired him they should have taken any pay he was owed and donate it to an organization that fights this kind of needless cruelty!! What a sick excuse for a human being! So awfully sad.

Cody could have gone to jail for more than two years.

Cody suffers from depression, according to his lawyer.

Cody said the dog was suffering from worms.

Cody purchased the dog for $8,000.

The dog once weighed 100 pounds. The dog died at less than 50 pounds.

He was cut last year by the Ravens after being indicted.

Cody illegally possessed an alligator and had drug paraphernalia.

Cody’s girlfriend, Kourtney Kelley, was convicted and sentenced to 50 days and then paroled.

I may have signed – praising them and the NFL for letting him go but WTF give the man more than 9 months he made that dog suffer and then it died….What kind of message did you just send another assclown out there who would be thinking of doing the same…oh go ahead do it and you’ll only get 9 months….WE NEED TO BE HARSHER TO ASSCLOWNS LIKE THIS…WE ARE SENDING THE WRONG MESSAGE…

  5. THIS NFL JERK should be STARVED the whole time he’s in jail….& 9 months IS NOT LONG ENOUGH!

  6. YEAH RIGHT, follow the story, he will be out lots sooner. Justice will never be served for this ignorant jerk.

  7. This POS needs the death penalty instigated.

  8. THE TIME DID NOT FIT THE CRIME!!!!!!

THIS MONSTER STARVED THIS POOR DOG TO A HORRIBLE AND PAINFUL DEATH. I’M GLAD HE WAS FIRED, BUT HE SHOULD HAVE HAD TO GO TO JAIL FOR AT LEAST TWO YEARS, HAD TO PAY A HUGE FINE, BANNED FROM EVER HAVING OR BEING AROUND ANIMALS AND GET PSYCHIATRIC HELP AS HE IS SICK!!

RIP POOR DOG AND MAY YOU FINALLY GET JUSTICE FOR YOUR HORRIBLE DEATH!

  9. Margaret Melnick says:

9 months this has to be a joke. This man deserves far far more. So he suffered from depression, big deal this does not excuse his action. Sick my ass this guy is nothing but a sub human. When are we going to get judges who impose actual penalty for these crimes. I suppose when judges start getting elected instead of appointed. When money stops talking so I guess it is a long way in the future. The bleeding hearts still cry we want to rehabilitate not punish. Sorry but I want to punish then think about rehabilitating.

  10. 9 months in jail for him is not enough… He needs much, much more… Look at that poor dog… It must have suffered so much… There needs to be tougher laws on animal abuse!!!

  11. DEATH TO THIS ANIMAL KILLER NOW.

  12. Margrit Simons says:

Thank you for helping those who can not help themselves!

  13. Marsha Squibb says:

Starve this don of a bitch…Hope he kills himself . That’ll end his depression!!!!
