Target: Stan Dobbs, Hayward Unified School District Superintendent
Goal: Investigate Muslim girl’s allegations of bullying based on her faith and wearing the hijab.
Middle school student Nikki Hussein says the same boy has been taunting her for her Muslim faith since the third grade. It got so bad Nikki says she decided to stop wearing her hijab for a few years, but began wearing it again recently.
Nikki alleges that when the taunting began in elementary school, her reports to school officials went unheard and nothing was done to stop the bullying, so she chose not to report it when the bullying started up again this year. In the latest incident, Nikki reports that the boy pulled her hijab to the side and demanded to know if she’s a terrorist.
Demand that the school system investigates these accusations and prevent further bullying of Muslim students.
Dear Superintendent Dobbs,
A 13-year-old girl in your school system alleges she’s the victim of bullying based on her faith and choice to wear the hijab. Nikki Hussein needs your help to feel safe in school. She reports that when the bullying began in the third grade nothing was done, so she stopped wearing the hijab. When she began wearing it again this year, the bullying also started anew, but she chose not to report it, believing nothing would be done.
We demand that these allegations are taken seriously and that necessary steps are taken to prevent bullying of Muslim students in the future.
