Urge Armani to Ditch All Animal Products

Target: Giorgio Armani, founder and CEO of Armani

Goal: Ditch all cruelly-obtained animal products as well as fur.

Major luxury fashion line Armani has made headlines by deciding to go fur-free after over forty years of animal rights groups lobbying the company to do so. While this is a major win for animals caged, gassed and skinned for fur, such as foxes and mink, other animals will continue to suffer in the production of this company’s fashion lines.

Leather is not merely a by-product of the meat industry. In fact, much of the leather sold worldwide comes from animals killed primarily for their skins. Most leather comes from countries with little to no animal welfare laws.

In India, workers have been documented breaking cows tails and rubbing chili pepper into their eyes to force them to walk. Animals have their throats slit while fully conscious and some are even skinned while still alive. In wool production, sheep are brutally shorn and often suffer deep cuts or injuries from being beaten by workers. They are also victims of mulesing, a practice in which the skin on their backside is painfully sliced off.

While Armani has appeased protesters by going fur free, it is still abusing countless animals by selling leather, wool and other animal materials. Urge the company to make animal welfare a priority and ditch all animal products.

Dear Mr. Armani,

While your decision to go fur free is good news for foxes and mink, it unfortunately ignores the plight of sheep abused and killed for wool and cows, pigs, goats and even dogs slaughtered for leather.

These industries are no less cruel than the fur industry, and while I applaud your decision to ditch fur, your company continues to profit from the abuse and slaughter of other animals. Please take sheep and cows into account too and stop using all animal products in your clothing lines.
