Punish Man Charged With 21 Counts of Animal Cruelty

Target: New York Attorney General, Eric Schneiderman

Goal: Punish man charged with 21 counts of animal cruelty to the fullest extent of the law, if found guilty.

Police reportedly found 23 animals living in terrible conditions on a farm. The animals found included pigs, cows, rabbits, and goats. The animals were discovered following a state-required animal and barn inspection. This led to the granting of a search warrant to police officers who further investigated the issue. As a result of the findings, owner Daniel Pacheco was arrested and charged with 21 counts of animal cruelty.

Animal cruelty is a felony in New York that carries a heavy sentence of up to seven years in prison per charge. Police say the animals living on the farm did not have adequate food, water and shelter. The pens the animals lived in had also not been cleaned recently and were overflowing with garbage, feces, and mud.

Pacheco handed the animals over to animal control after his arrest. Law enforcement said there was one dead baby cow along with other farm animals near death. Officers also claim the pigs were fed garbage and uncooked foods, which is against the law. The pigs were quarantined on the farm, but the other animals were rescued by a livestock dealer who wants to nurse them back to health.

This large scale neglect and abuse of animals cannot be allowed to continue. It burdens animal rescue agents and foster locations with taking on a larger number of animals than they initial plan or have resources for. Often times, this means taking on more animals than they can care for long term. Add your name to the petition to urge the state to punish the accused with the harshest sentence allowed by law if found guilty.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Attorney General Schneiderman,

A local man was charged with 21 counts of animal cruelty after police reportedly found 23 neglected animals on the property. Law enforcement states that the animals did not have proper access to food and shelter. Claims also include that the animals were housed in dirty pens filled with feces, mud, and garbage. Even worse off were the pigs that were fed garbage and uncooked food. They were later quarantined for health reasons.

Animal abuse on farms tends to present much greater risks than that which occurs in civilian homes. This is because farmers usually have the privacy and space to neglect and abuse animals without being seen. Since the animals are also not walked outside or through the neighborhood for exercise, the abuse is more likely to go undetected for long periods of time.

Animal abuse on farms also means that at the time of rescue, a large number of animals will need proper treatment and care. Humane societies and the community do not often have all the resources necessary to rehabilitate the animals, which puts more pressure on animal control officers and the surrounding community to fix the growing problem.

I urge you to take a stand against this growing abuse of animals on farms by ensuring owner Daniel Pacheco receives the most severe punishment allowed by law. This helps to deter other animal abusers by sending a message that the government will not take this issue lightly.

Sincerely,

The remainder were ‘rescued’ by a livestock dealer who wants to nurse them back to health. Oh puh—leeeez! He’s a dealer. He wants to nurse them back to health so he can sell them to slaughter houses. He can’t sell sick animals!

  4. I am ready, willing and able to help enact the required permanent payback.Oh yessss!
