Stop Cruel “Chicken Chase” Event

Target: Dr. John Paisley, Senior Pastor at Riverview Baptist Church

Goal: End the cruel and unnecessary event in which chickens are released for children to chase.

An event called “Chicken Chase” where chickens are released into an arena for children to chase is being held by the Riverview Baptist Church in Pasco, Washington. The event is a chaotic mess. The chickens are terrified and can face injury due to the inappropriate handling from the children.

The children who are able to catch a chicken are awarded a baby chick as an award. Baby chicks are living beings who have a lifespan of up to 11 years, which is a big commitment. Most of these chickens end up being abandoned, neglected, or moved from house to house.

The event is cruel and giving away baby chicks is irresponsible. Sign this petition and demand the event ends completely.

Dear Dr. Paisley,

Your church is soon holding an event called “Chicken Chase.” During this event, chickens are released into an arena where children chase after them. The chickens are terrified as these children chase them down and are exposed to potential injury due to mishandling. The event is chaotic, unnecessary and inherently cruel to the chickens.

On top of this event, the children who are able to catch chickens are awarded a baby chick. Chickens can live up to 11 years and that is a major commitment to accept. Most of these chicks end up being neglected, abandoned, or thrown from house to house.

Please consider ending this event. The chickens should not be subjected to this terror and neglect.

  1. Margaret Melnick says:

I can not believe that a Church of all places would host such an event. Whatever happened to “All Gods Creatures” If this is their Concept of what God put these animals on the earth for I wouldn’t want to nor would I want anyone I know to be a part of it. This Church is not keeping with Gods Word.

  2. Janet Whisnant says:

I keep seeing “Christian” organisations associated with events of animal cruelty. If that doesn’t scream hypocrisy and disgusting behavior, I don’t know what does! Shame on them!!!

  4. Jean Clelland-Morin says:

    Exploitation of Non-Humans is IMMORAL.

  5. Natasha Glinsky says:

Isn’t this another case of animal cruelty. Why do we have to educate abusers on every possible type of abuse known to humans?
