Praise Rescue of Dog Abused by Adopter

Target: Michelle Earl, Executive Director Humane Society of Parkersburg

Goal: Applaud organization for re-rescuing dog from abusive home.

A dog that had been previously adopted from a shelter in Parkersburg, West Virginia was found neglected and abused a second time around at the hands of the new owner. The dog, named Atticus, had been rescued and subsequently adopted a little over one year before the recent rescue and had been suffering for some time in his new home. It wasn’t until after a neighbor had alerted authorities that there might be something wrong with Atticus that the Humane Society decided to go to the home to check up on him.

Upon arrival, authorities found Atticus shriveled up into a ball, lying on sand and dirt. The poor dog had no water or food and appeared to be extremely neglected.  The responding officials described his appearance as a skeleton with some skin thinly stretched out over it. After being removed from the home he received immediate veterinary attention, though some of his injuries were quite severe.

The Humane Society team likely saved Atticus’s life. If it weren’t for their intervention, he may have continued to suffer months, if not years of abuse. Since these animals do not have the advantage of picking up and leaving when they have had enough abuse, it is left to gracious people like the Humane Society team members to ensure that they are mercifully removed from inadequate care. Please sign this petition to applaud their dedicated efforts to ensure the safety and welfare of their animals.

Dear Ms. Earl,

I am writing this letter in order to thank your entire organization for stepping in to re-rescue Atticus. As you know, Atticus is the dog that had been rescued just to be adopted and re-abused. If it weren’t for your staff, Atticus could have potentially faced many more months or years of abuse. Your team stepped in to help a poor, defenseless, and abused animal that has rarely been shown kindness or mercy.

Adopted shelter animals are far too often abused and held at a lesser value than pets obtained from a pet store or breeder. These dogs that are rescued and delivered to a shelter are in a desperate and needy condition and it is up to humans to make sure they are taken care of properly. The man that “adopted” Atticus from the shelter is rightfully being investigated because of your efforts. Thank you so much for being a beacon of hope to the animals out there who are suffering from abuse and neglect.

I can not understand why people get animals/pet if they do not take care of them the way they deserve!

You guys are the SALT OF THE EARTH ………

  3. Hope the abuser will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and never allowed to adopt from any shelter!
