Ban Bullfighting for Good

Target: Mayor of Valencia, Joan Ribó

Goal: Urge Mayor who is considering “no-kill” bullfighting to outlaw the cruel practice entirely.

The Mayor of Valencia, Spain, is considering transforming bullfighting into a “no-kill” sport in his city. While his intentions are good, this move would still not be enough to ensure the welfare of the bulls, who are taunted, terrorized and stabbed with barbed darts. Moreover, no-kill bullfights already practiced in Portugal simply see the animal slaughtered out of sight after the fight, thus prolonging the animal’s agony and distress.

Mistreating animals for sport is never acceptable and the incredibly cruel practice of bullfighting should be eradicated entirely. Support for it is reportedly waning in Spain, with citizens increasingly aware that animals are sentient beings who shouldn’t be abused for entertainment.

Sign this petition urging Valencia to outlaw this cruel and dated practice with the hope that other cities in Spain will follow suit.

Dear Mayor Ribó,

Your proposition to transform bullfighting in Valencia into a “no-kill” sport no doubt has good intentions. However, the bulls suffer immensely in the ring before being killed, as they are taunted, terrorized and stabbed with barbed darts. Moreover, no-kill bullfights often see bulls slaughtered out of sight after the fight, which simply prolongs the animal’s agony.

Support for bullfighting is waning in Spain, with only 8.5 percent of Spaniards still attending bullfights, according to your Ministry of Culture. With people increasingly aware that mistreating sentient beings for entertainment is unacceptable, it is high time the practice be abolished for good. I urge you to stand up for abused animals and ban bullfighting in Valencia.

It takes intelligence to have morals. If you don’t like abuse, neither will an innocent animal. Please show the world that Spain has intelligent beings by banning all animal cruelty. As of now, I boycott all products from Spain until the country adopts respect for animals.
