Target: United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon
Goal: Stop the creation of harmful and discriminatory anti-trans and anti-gay facilities in Russia.
Facilities for the treatment of people with “gender identity disorders” and “disorders of sexual preference” could be created due to new regulations proposed by Russian officials at the Russian Ministry of Health. These phrases essentially mean trans and gay people, of whom Russia has a violent history against.
Officials classify these so-called conditions as “mental and behavioral disorders.” The new regulations would require “sexology exam rooms” in psychiatric hospitals and primary care clinics where clinicians would counsel “patients with conditions related to gender identification problems … sexual disharmonies and deviations.” The clinicians would also diagnose and treat “sexual deviations among children and youth” and “consult youth about their sexual education and knowledge of gender.”
These regulations are essentially harmful conversion therapy and can be extremely damaging to trans people and gay people, especially children. The proposed facilities are disgusting and discriminatory and cannot be allowed to function. Urge the U.N. to step in and and stop this blatant homophobia and transphobia.
Dear Secretary General Ki-moon,
Russian officials are trying to open up facilities that will do irreparable harm to trans people and gay people, and especially to trans and gay youth. Officials are trying to classify these people as having “mental and behavioral disorders.” This is disgusting and wrong, and we cannot allow these facilities to operate.
I urge you to step in and stop Russia from creating these facilities.
