Target: Austrian President Heinz Fischer
Goal: Stop the growing number of sexual assaults in Austria.
Austrian officials say that sexual assaults are at the highest level they have been for years. An average of twelve new cases are reported every day and it peaked during the New Year period. The police originally denied that there had been any incidents but later admitted that they had lied to protect the privacy of the victims and rejected the suggestion that they had covered up the incidents under orders from politicians.
So far it’s not known how many of the assaults can be blamed on foreigners. Of the attacks, 61 were raped, of which 38 are believed to be caused by Austrians and 6 are suspected to be caused by asylum seekers. Most of the concern surrounding these rising sex attacks are directed toward the police, who initially lied about the incidents. Austrian politicians are even shocked by how terrible the situation is. They believe that the actual problem is far worse than they had ever realized. For that reason, sign the petition below to urge the Austrian government to focus and attempt to stop the rising number of sexual assaults.
Dear President Fischer,
Austria has seen a peak in sexual assaults ever since the New Year season. Around 24 cases were reported to the police, who subsequently covered all of them up, and an average of 12 new cases are being reported daily. January alone saw 343 complaints about sex-related incidents and the accused range from ages 11 to 82. It has even been hinted at that the issue is far worse than the public realizes. The sexual assaults are occurring in public events, where the victims can be pulled away from the crowd and cannot be heard.
This growing number puts the safety of all women living and traveling to Austria in danger. The assaults cannot be pinned onto a specific group of people; 61 of the attacks were rapes, of which more than half of the attackers are believed to be Austrian. Police covered up the issue entirely during the season, putting several unwarned women in danger and allowing the problem to grow exponentially. I ask that the Austrian government focus on these sexual assault cases and bring an end to the rising number of attacks.
