Target: Superintendent of Baltimore County Public Schools Dr. S. Dallas Dance
Goal: Demand the immediate termination of the two police officers who allegedly assaulted a young student.
A video has gone viral of Officer Anthony C. Spence assaulting a 10th grade school student. The student suffered several face and rib injuries. The officer was accompanied by Officer Saverna Bias who reportedly verbally encouraged Officer Spence to continue beating the young child and made no movement to stop her fellow officer.
The cops then reported that they had been called to deal with an intruder and that the assaulted child wasn’t a student. This was quickly retracted and it was confirmed that the child did attend the school where the incident occurred.
Even more shocking is the fact that the officer assaulting the student was armed, which is a clear violation of laws in Baltimore City. The law states that officers are allowed to be armed while responding to schools, but prohibits them from carrying firearms while working inside school buildings.
It has also come to light that both officers have a history of violence. Officer Spencer was fired from the Baltimore City Sheriff’s Office for tasering an innocent man he suspected to be a bank robber. He was then hired to work for the Baltimore City Public School System, where he has worked until this incident. Sign the petition below to demand the immediate termination of Officer Spencer and Officer Bias.
Dear Dr. Dance,
Police officers do not have the patience of teachers and school administrators. They don’t have the training to deal with children. They’re trained to deal with dangerous people and to arrest criminals. They aren’t meant to be disciplining any student. In Baltimore, there is already a distrust in the police after the many cases of police brutality.
Many parents now fear for the safety of their children and are worried that their child will simply end up as another statistic for police brutality. They often hear stories on the news of officers using deadly force and now have to worry about the police officers in the school system.
Officers such as Officer Spencer and Officer Bias should not be in a public school. They have previous records of police brutality and are known to use excessive force against minors. I demand the immediate termination of both officers.
