Fire Deputy Who Shot Family Dog

Target: Rogers County Sheriff Scott Walton

Goal: Fire officer accused of shooting a family’s dog and leaving him to die slowly.

A police officer allegedly shot a family’s dog named Bruno and left him to suffer on a doorstep for hours before he was found. According to Owasso, Oklahoma resident Angie Laymon, a deputy entered her yard while searching for a suspect and shot the barking dog without provocation. The deputy then left the dog, a German Shepherd, on the porch where he was found three hours later by Laymon’s children.

Surveillance footage from Laymon’s yard shows that the officer took a mere four seconds to shoot the dog after entering the yard. The officer made no attempt to subdue the dog, which only barked and never moved to attack him, with non-lethal methods such as pepper spray or a taser. After shooting the dog, the officer made no effort to contact animal protection services but simply left a note on the door.

Bruno suffered heavy bleeding and shattered bones in his shoulder, but survived. He will require extensive surgery and may either have his leg amputated or his shoulder replaced. It is likely that he will never recover his full movement capabilities.

This deputy’s hasty and poorly-thought out decision not only caused unnecessary harm to the dog, but has caused severe trauma for the children who found him. The fact that the officer left the dog to die without calling for help demonstrates a disturbing lack of empathy. Sign the petition below to demand that the officer responsible is investigated and fired if found guilty of wrongdoing.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Sheriff Scott Walton,

A deputy is accused of shooting a dog for little other reason than the dog was barking at him. According to owner Angie Laymon, the deputy entered her yard while looking for a suspect, shooting the barking dog within seconds of seeing it. Rather than alerting dispatch and requesting animal protection services, the officer left the dog to bleed on the porch where children found it three hours later.

This shocking lack of judgement not only resulted in severe physical harm to an animal, but trauma for the entire family, particularly the children. We, the undersigned, demand that the officer responsible is investigated and fired if found guilty of wrongdoing.

Sincerely,

None of these cops are paying for shooting all these pets/animals, it just keeps happening & will keep happening till someone with brass balls or knockers makes a example out of this maniac cop or any of the other hundreds like it.

  2. Lajeanne Leveton says:

THIS police officer was over 1/2 mile away from where he was supposed to be! He shot the dog for no reason: the dog showed NO AGGRESSION.

He then refused to take the dog to a vet or to call animal control for the bleeding dog.

There is an epidemic of police shooting peoples’ pets for no reason. One police department has shot and killed 92 dogs in a three year period…..any investigation into shooting of dogs (or cats) by police ALWAYS “clears” the policeman…..at most, he is placed on paid leave.

  3. OMG………….THIS IS BEYOND INEXCUSABLE, BLATANT DISRESPECT FOR LIFE AND THIS COP MUST BE FIRED. THE OWNERS MUST PURSUE THIS AND MAKE SURE THAT JUSTICE IS GOTTEN FOR THEIR BELOVED BRUNO. CALL ANIMAL LEGAL DEFENSE FUND, LEXUS PROJECT, BEST FRIENDS, LAST CHANCE FOR ANIMALS AND ANY OTHER LARGE ANIMAL ORGANIZATION AND LET THEM HELP YOU FIGHT THIS.A TOP NOTCH ATTORNEY WILL MAKE SURE THAT THIS IS HANDLED THE RIGHT WAY. THE VET BILL MUST BE PAID BY THE CITY,COUNTY WHERE THIS COP USED TO WORK.

THERE IS SUCH LACK OF TRUST IN COPS TODAY AND STORIES LIKE THIS IS WHY THAT IT TRUE. IT MUST CHANGE AND CHANGE NOW. THESE COPS MUST BE TRAINED TO USE THEIR BRAINS FIRST AND NOT THEIR GUNS. IF AND WHEN A DOG IS AGGRESSIVE THEN USE MASE, OR A TASER OR PEPPER SPRAY. DON’T USE YOUR GUN UNLESS ABSOLUTELY THE VERY LAST STRAW AND ONLY IF YOUR LIFE IS IN DANGER AND NONE OF THIS HAPPENED WHEN HOT HAND LUKE SHOT THIS DOG. THEN HE JUST LEFT THE DOG TO DIE AND KIDS FOUND THEIR BELOVED PET SEVERELY BLEEDING. THERE IS NO EXCUSE THAT THIS COP COULD GIVE THAT SHOULD LET HIM KEEP HIS JOB. HE IS A LOOSE CANYON WAITING TO EXPLODE. FIRE HIM AND DEMAND HE GETS PSYCHIATRIC HELP.

I HOPE BRUNO RECOVERS AND HAS NO LONG LASTING PROBLEMS BECAUSE OF THIS FAST SHOOTING COP!

This is what gives officers a bad name and makes people not support them. This deputy needs go be fired and hav eto pay all the medical bills for the dog. What a piece of scum.

  5. Anyone who shows such disregard for pain and suffering even if it is an animal makes me think he would do the same to a human. FIRE HIM before he does the same thing to an innocent person.

  6. Wendy Morrison says:

Shoot this officer in the shoulder and leave him lying in one place for a long time like this defenseless innocent German shepherd had too.

  7. Firing this moron isn’t good enough. That poor helpless dog will never be the same., let alone the children who found their pet – lying there bleeding to death. Police officers who are not able to handle non aggressive pets should NOT be allowed on the streets; they should be given inside paperwork jobs. As for this officer’s moronic actions, he (she?) must be fired and also have charges pressed for cruelty to animals. There is no excuse for this !!!!!!!

  8. Chuck Marcovecchio says:

What the hell is wrong with these cops? I find it interesting that they can shoot a dog without hesitation, but, when someone like James Holmes open fires inside a movie theater and kills and wounds many people and then walks out and stands by his car with an assault rifle in his hands and thousands of rounds of ammunition in his car the cops didn’t shoot him.

  9. Gene Sengstake says:

Fire the bastard??? He should not only be fired – he should be thrown in jail – – –

  10. “The only difference between a dog, cat, horse and dolphin and a cow, chicken, pig and turkey is perception. One is no more valuable than another. And yet in this culture, we hold the former animals in high esteem and the latter we brutalize for food. All animals are deserving of respect and freedom from violence. The way to respect others is veganism.”

  12. All these cops have gotten WAY out of hand! Some ‘protective’ force, they are! Fire this a-hole, charge him with animal cruelty, and ruin his life, as he’s done to both this poor dog and his/her family!!!! We’re ALL sick to death of having to complain about dirty, rotten cops!!!!!

  13. Karen Remnant says:

Don’t sack the bastard – shoot him! There seems to be more and more ‘officers’ who enjoy shooting dogs! Miserable bastards should never be allowed near guns – ever!

  14. You really need to fire this scumbag, makes the state look really bad and I will definitely not be traveling there this summer
