Target: New Jersey Acting Attorney General, John Jay Hoffman

Goal: Demand justice for dogs sickened and killed by the alleged negligence of Just Pups’ pet store owners.

The New Jersey animal law enforcement agency just filed 267 complaints against the owners of a local pet store, Just Pups, after reportedly finding three dead puppies in a freezer. Other accusations include the exposure of the store’s puppies to illnesses, which resulted in the death of many puppies, even those who had been taken home by customers.

The New Jersey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NJSPCA) stated that more charges may follow. Inspectors report that the store owners did not take the necessary measures to prevent the spread of fatal illnesses among the animals. As a result, the dogs were exposed to giardia, respiratory illnesses, upper respiratory infections and other contagious diseases. These illnesses not only put the animals at risk but also the humans handling them.

The owners run four other pet stores in New Jersey, thus making the investigation more difficult. So far, the fines levied against the owners carry costs of about $100,000. The pet store in question, Just Pups, have since been shut down by a temporary restraining order. Since the start of the investigation, the pet store has been shut down a total of four times.

The owners of the store clearly have no interest in the well-being of the animals. They were also willing to put customers and the general public at risk by allowing people to purchase and take these animals home to mingle with babies and other pets. This gross disregard for public safety cannot be allowed to continue. Help put a stop to it by signing your name to the petition.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Hoffman,

The NJSPCA just released heartbreaking news that they found three dead puppies in a freezer at a local pet store called Just Pups. For this and other reasons, the NJSPCA filed 267 complaints against the owners of the pet store who also operate four other pet stores in New Jersey. The owners are accused of exposing their puppies to lethal diseases without taking the necessary precautionary methods to ensure their health.

Even worse is the fact that many of these diseases affect human beings as well, creating a public safety risk. This is especially true for families with newborns and other pets who may have purchased dogs from the store. Some of these purchased dogs reportedly did not make it and others were deemed unfit for sale by veterinarians upon examination. The NJSPCA continues to investigate and warns that even more complaints and fines may be charged as they unearth more facts.

Had this situation continued undiscovered, it could have resulted in the deaths of not just animals but people as well. Ensure that this risk does not affect New Jersey again by making an example of these pet store owners by punishing them to the fullest extent of the law if found guilty.

Sincerely,

This is exactly why i hate pet stores, just keep breeding more suffering of animals & with 267 complaints this store should’ve been condemed..all of their stores.

We always have word of mouth & social media.

  2. Woe! That Pet Store must’ve ran their shop the wrong way. Why they don’t start off with simulators? Freezing these animal alive in the freezer is a bad reputation, and it’s also barberric. If I ran a pet store; I rather start things off as simulator units, then real animals. However, instead of housing animals, it’s going to be stocked with equipment, and supplies.
I know many pet stores are criticised for cruelty. Maybe they’re rushing their business,–instead of taking responsibility. I rather take responsibility with my animals, and setup simulator units for future owners who wanted a pet. However, the majority of this shop is going to have just supplies.
