Target: Tony Rackauckas, Orange County District Attorney
Goal: Charge all klansmen responsible for stabbing counter-protesters at rally.
During a KKK rally in Southern California, fighting erupted between white supremacists and counter-protesters which resulted in the stabbing of three non-klansmen and noninvasive injuries to some klansmen. The most shocking and disgusting part of this story is the fact that the klansmen were released on the basis of their claims to self-defense. It is unclear as to whether the arrested counter-protesters were released or if they are being allowed to use self-defense as an excuse as well.
It is not surprising that the klansmen reportedly utilized sharp objects to fight fists, since they often show up to provoke people. It has long been a strategy of the KKK to occupy space in nonwhite populated areas in order to start trouble. This time, in California, they showed up in a city that only has about a 28% white population. It seems clear the klansmen were expecting to enrage people when they arrived and pretended that they were using knives and flag poles as their last resort, when in fact this was actually their plan from the beginning.
The fact that they stabbed people at their own rally shows some degree of planning and law enforcement should treat the situation as such. Sign this petition urging the district attorney to detain the klansmen and charge them with deadly assault.
Dear Mr. Rackauckas,
I am writing this letter in disappointment that KKK members were released on self-defense charges. These klansmen allegedly stabbed three counter-protesters at their own rally and the very fact that they brought knives to their own event should indicate that they planned on hurting people that day.
As you know, klansmen often protest in nonwhite areas in order to provoke the public and create negative reactions. It is baffling that they are still allowed to congregate since they are a hate group, but since they are, we must at least hold them accountable for their heinous actions. These klansmen must be charged for their horrifying crimes so that the Anaheim population can make a stand against hate groups and express its intolerance for senseless crimes like these.
Across the country, hate crimes are rising on account of Donald Trump’s hate campaign. We cannot allow the decades of healing between minority races and whites to be ruined and exacerbated by the KKK’s antics. Please arrest these criminals and charge them accordingly so that the public in Anaheim can feel safe and protected in their community and know that hateful outsiders will not be allowed to show up and create hostility.
