Target: California Attorney General Kamala Harris
Goal: Press charges against the police officers who shot and killed a 31-year-old mother of three in Inglewood, Calif.
Kisha Michael, a 31-year-old mother of three, was shot and killed by Inglewood police. Inglewood police said that they received a call about a suspicious vehicle, and when they approached the car, they allegedly saw a man and a woman, with the woman holding a gun. The police officers allegedly then took cover and opened fire. The woman died from the shooting shortly after, and the man died later at the hospital. No police officers were injured.
Michael’s family said that they have asked police for more details, but officers are allegedly not providing any real information. Michael’s mother said it wasn’t until hours after the shooting that she learned of her daughter’s death. The family said that Michael never owned a gun.
A spokesperson for the Inglewood Police Department would not say whether the man and woman refused to exit the vehicle, if the woman pointed the gun, or if she shot at the officers. Community activists were quick to point out that, even if Michael was in possession of a gun, that does not mean police had the grounds to murder her.
Yet again, we see this all-too-common story of police brutality against black people. This cannot continue. Urge officials to press charges against the police officers who shot and killed Kisha Michael.
Dear Attorney General Harris,
Inglewood police shot and killed 31-year-old mother of three, Kisha Michael. The story that they have given doesn’t provide a legitimate reason for her murder, and they are allegedly not even providing details to her family as they grieve this loss. Police claim that Michael had a gun but would not say whether she used that gun to pose a threat to them. Michael’s family has said that she never even owned a gun.
This alleged unjustified violence and murder against black people cannot continue. We cannot allow this story to play out over and over again. I urge you to press charges against the officers who murdered Kisha Michael.
