Don’t Allow Alleged Rapist to Go Free

Target: Staten Island District Attorney, Michael McMahon

Goal: Prosecute homeless man who allegedly raped woman at office building to the fullest extent of the law.

The NYPD arrested a homeless man after he allegedly raped a woman at a local office building. The man has since been charged with first-degree criminal sex act, first-degree rape, and first-degree robbery. Tips from the public helped police to locate the accused man, and he was later taken into custody where the victim selected him from a line-up.

Officials claim the man knocked on the front door of an office and told the woman who answered that he was looking for work, and she let him in. The man, identified as Maurice Scott, reportedly raped the victim and threatened to shoot her if she did not comply. He then took her jewelry, her smart phone, and cash before fleeing the scene. Authorities also disclosed that this is not Scott’s first brush with the law. He has been arrested before for assault and robbery.

Making a victim of someone likely just trying to help is one of the most heartless things anyone can do. In this particular case, not only did he strip her of her dignity and invade her personal space, but he then robbed her of her material possessions as well.

This prevalence of violence against women cannot be suffered to continue. Help put an end to this growing problem. Add your name to the petition to ensure that if found guilty, Scott goes away for a very long time.

Dear District Attorney McMahon,

The NYPD recently arrested and charged a homeless man with first-degree criminal sex act, first-degree rape, and first-degree robbery. The man in question, Maurice Scott, reportedly visited a local office in Staten Island, claiming to look for work. When a woman at the building let him in, he raped her and threatened her with a gun to gain her compliance. He then robbed her of her cell phone, money, and jewelry before taking off.

Following the incident, the police launched a manhunt and appealed to the public for help in locating the accused. The public responded by providing law enforcement with tips, which eventually led to his arrest. He was then allegedly selected out of a line-up.

I urge you to help support the safety of women by ensuring this man receives severe punishment for his actions, if found guilty. Prior arrests for robbery and assault indicate that he is a repeat offender. Please do not make the mistake of letting him get off easy to become a repeat offender of rape as well.
