Target: Attorney General of Minnesota, Lori Swanson
Goal: Demand a thorough investigation into rape case involving a woman reportedly coerced into sex by a teenage boy.
Winona County police charged a 15-year-old boy with raping a 47-year-old woman. Authorities say the rape took place multiple times over a period of several months at a local home. The boy allegedly used coercion to carry out the assault but reports regarding what kind of force was used has not been disclosed. Police say the woman did not have mental or physical handicaps but still suffered the ordeal until reporting the incident in January.
Chief Deputy of the Winona County Sheriff’s office, Chris Cichosz, described the case as “unique” and believes the assaults would continue if the woman did not finally report it. The boy remains in custody on account of the third-degree criminal sexual conduct charge but authorities cannot disclose his identity on account of his age. Law enforcement also refuses to disclose information about how the boy and the woman know each other.
Olmsted County recently took over the case for prosecution due to a conflict in the Winona County area as officials continue to investigate. Even so, they remain tight-lipped about any other details related to the case. They also do not know for certain if other victims may be involved.
The details will come out in court but for the present it is apparent that a great injustice was done. We don’t know for sure what kind of force was used to keep the woman quiet for such a long period of time, but we cannot allow this kind of behavior to continue. Not only did this assault occur multiple times but it seems premeditated and planned. Add your name to demand a full investigation and to encourage a severe sentencing if the boy is found guilty.
Dear Attorney General Swanson,
A strange case of a 15-year-old boy allegedly coercing a 47-year-old woman into sex recently surfaced in Winona County. The assault took place over several months starting in last year and was reported only a short while ago. Authorities say they are sure the assault would continue if the woman had not finally brought her case to them. The boy remains in police custody and has been charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct but because of his age they cannot disclose his identity.
All of the assaults took place at a residence in the Winona countryside. However, it is not clear whether the victim and assailant shared a home or how they knew each other. Olmsted County has since taken over prosecution of the case due to some conflict in Winona County.
This case is not only strange but also strikes fear into the hearts of many women who would like to believe themselves capable of fighting off a 15-year-old boy. As the first woman elected as Attorney General in Minnesota, many female people look to you to ensure their needs are represented in law enforcement. I urge you to show your commitment to ending violence against women by ensuring a proper investigation is done and that the boy receives a severe sentence if found guilty.
