Target: David Cameron, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom
Goal: Provide funding to police unit that stops people from severely hurting and killing wildlife.
Wildlife crimes against endangered animals may soon rise because an important police unit may no longer be given funding by the government, making it so this part of the police force is unable to operate. We need to take action to better ensure that the lives of many innocent animals will be spared.
The NWCU (National Wildlife Crime Unit) investigates wildlife crimes that may otherwise go overlooked, such as the trading of endangered species, poaching and other crimes that involve cruelty to animals. The group even helps other countries like Africa combat their own wildlife crimes by also providing them with needed funding.
Many people feel that cutting off the funding of the main unit that investigates these crimes is a clear indication that the UK government does not care about protecting their wildlife. In addition, taking such actions is completely contradictory to what conservatives stated in a recent manifesto claiming that they will “continue to lead the world in stopping the poaching that kills thousands of rhinos, elephants and tigers each year.”
Tell UK government officials that it is important to continue to provide funding for this purpose. Horrible crimes such as poaching, illegal smuggling of animals and the torturing of wildlife will likely continue if this police unit suddenly no longer exists.
Dear Prime Minister Cameron,
If the NWCU loses funding, they will no longer be able to fight important crimes, such as the trafficking and torturing of wildlife. It is important that they continue to receive this funding so that many endangered species and other animals can remain safe.
Not providing this part of the police force with funding seems to be a clear indication that the government does not care about protecting native wildlife, since the unit will no longer be able to operate without financial assistance. Cutting the funding for this police unit is also in direct contradiction of the manifesto conservatives recently presented stating that the UK would continue to be leaders in helping to stop the poaching of rhinos, elephants and tigers.
I therefore encourage you to support funding being provided to this police unit in order to better ensure that several endangered species and other forms of wildlife will remain protected. People looking to harm and make a profit off the lives of innocent animals will only be encouraged to continue partaking in their vile actions if law enforcement is not around to stop them.
