Target: Joe Watson, CEO of Petland
Goal: Stop obtaining puppies from cruel, unsanitary puppy mills.
Petland is a major pet store with more than 130 stores across the U.S. Consumer Affairs has almost 500 complaints from customers and a lot have to do with their new puppies. Karen Paul, an animal rescuer, noticed that every time she went into the store “there was something wrong, either a sick dog or an animal showing injury.” A former employee allegedly stated that puppies were “coming in multiple times a week or who were sick and had deformities.”
Allegedly, Petland is obtaining these dogs from puppy mills. Their dogs show all the characteristic signs of coming from a puppy mill, including runny noses, trembling, diarrhea and shyness. Puppy mills are extremely traumatic places for dogs, physically and mentally.

Dear Mr. Watson,
There have been many customer complaints with your store, mainly with your dogs. Former employees and animal rescuers have noticed that many of the dogs are riddled with diseases and/or injuries.
It seems that your dogs are coming from puppy mills. Many show the characteristic signs, which include shyness, diarrhea, trembling and runny noses. Puppy mills are extremely traumatic places for dogs, physically and mentally. It is time you stop obtaining your dogs from puppy mills.
Many shelters would be happy to work with you to have their dogs shown at your stores. Many shelters and pet stores have agreements where shelters will come every weekend for adoptions. Please consider alternative methods of obtaining puppies for the sake of the dogs.
