Target: General population
Goal: Spread awareness of the environmental harm surrounding illegal marijuana farming operations.
Countless animals are being poisoned by illegal marijuana farms throughout the tribal lands and national parks of California. Despite the potential to grow legally, these farms set up their operations in the middle of delicate ecological zones. In an effort to poison rats and other annoying rodents, they also are killing Pacific fishers, black bears, gray foxes, and a variety of other animals.
The potential environmental impact of this is huge. There are thousands of farms scattered throughout California wildernesses and each two acre plot is devastating for the environment around it. Fully 81 percent of 101 fishers tested positive for rodent poison, and their population cannot afford to be so impacted. The people responsible for this must stop.
Of all the illegal marijuana eradicated in 2014, 62 percent was found in California. Environmentalists need to take a stand on the issue–it’s not marijuana they would be against, but illegal farming in delicate ecological zones–and the general public should know that the marijuana they buy is not environmentally friendly.
Many environmentalists have been hesitant to publicly condemn such acts because of the volatility of the cultural war surrounding marijuana, as well as the real dangers that surround such farms. This is wrong. Such acts must be condemned. The people farming marijuana illegally are no more than tax evaders interested in making a cheap buck. There is the potential to grow legally in California and they still don’t do it. Help spread awareness about this growing environmental problem by signing our petition.
Dear General Public,
Please make an effort to consider where your marijuana comes from. The harm that is being done to California’s wildlife by illegal marijuana farming is terrible. They leave behind piles of trash, they poison innocent animals, and they make loads of money from everyone. If you have a medical need for marijuana, find it through reputable sources. The government makes laws about farming for a reason, not merely to make production more expensive.
Many people in America consider themselves to be environmentally friendly. I urge you, if you are, and if you smoke marijuana, to consider where your weed comes from.
