Target: Arizona Governor, Doug Ducey
Goal: Help end needless and tragic violence by demanding more gun control.
Two 15-year-old girls were found dead by gunshots. The gun was found nearby and police allege a murder-suicide. In the state of Arizona where gun laws are lenient, it wasn’t difficult for one of the sophomore girls to find a gun to kill her classmate and then herself.
Gun law in Arizona is of the least-restrictive in the United States. Anyone over the age of 21 is allowed to purchase and carry a loaded, concealed handgun without any permit or license. A concealed carry permit is not required in Arizona as it is in most other states. It would not be difficult for even a young child to find a gun in their home and bring it to school. While it is technically not allowed for a minor to carry a weapon or for her to have brought it to the school, it was fairly easy for her to obtain, conceal, and then enter the school with the handgun. More students could have lost their lives because of such insufficient gun control.
With almost as many guns as there are people in the state, Arizona has an abundance of guns. For every 100 residents that own guns, less than about eight have gone through background checks. So, not only are there a lot of guns in Arizona, but they can also be concealed and carried by dangerous people.
We can help stop the widespread violence plaguing our nation by demanding an end to irresponsible gun laws like those in Arizona. Demand that Arizona increase gun control, including background checks, to limit the number of available guns to underage or dangerous people.
Dear Governor Ducey,
With the gun on the ground nearby, two young girls were discovered dead by single gunshots to the head. The police allege a murder-suicide. There was no difficulty for a 15-year-old to find the gun that would later kill her classmate and then herself. By making guns so easily accessible to the entire population, Arizona’s gun laws fail to protect its citizens.
There are almost as many guns as there are residents of Arizona. The laws irresponsibly allow for even the most dangerous and unstable people to become gun owners. Then, for every 100 residents that own guns, less than about eight have gone through background checks.
We need to make changes to end the preventable and tragic violence. I demand that Arizona increase gun control, including background checks, to limit the number of available guns to underage or dangerous people. Please act to stop gun violence.
