Investigate Fatal Shooting of Naked Teen

Target: Art Acevedo, Austin, Texas Chief of Police

Goal: Publicly investigate officer allegedly involved in fatal shooting of naked teenage male.

Officer Geoffrey Freeman was allegedly involved in the fatal shooting of an unclothed teenage male when he responded to calls of a disturbance. Seventeen-year-old David Joseph was reportedly found, naked and unarmed, chasing another male around an apartment complex. Officers report that they commanded David to stop, but he charged at them and, feeling this naked, unarmed teen was a threat, they allegedly fired at him.

It is unclear at this time if a Taser was used and what exact threat officers reportedly felt warranted responding with fatal force. Officer Freeman is a 10-year veteran of the Austin police force, yet he claims he felt threatened by a naked teenager running at him. Unfortunately, the shooting portion of this incident reportedly occurred out of range of the dashboard camera.

Demand this incident is investigated in the public eye and appropriate actions are taken based upon the outcome.

Dear Chief Acevedo,

Ten-year force veteran, Geoffrey Freeman, was allegedly involved in the fatal shooting of an unarmed, naked teenage male while responding to calls of a disturbance. Officer Freeman claims that David Joseph was charging at him when he fired the shots; however, that portion of the incident was allegedly not caught on camera and it is unclear how this naked, unarmed teenager posed a threat to the officer. Further, it is unclear if less fatal means were used to stop the boy prior to shooting him.

We demand this incident is investigated in an open and transparent manner and that appropriate actions are taken based on the outcome.
