Save Animals By Banning All Fur Products

Coyote-By-Forestwander

Target: Acting Commissioner Stephen Ostroff, M.D.

Goal: Ban the import and sale of all fur products, including faux fur.

Manufacturers and retailers are still selling real fur despite increasingly specific laws on the sale of unlabeled fur. These companies avoid laws by outsourcing to foreign countries and mislabeling their products. People who walk in stores and think they are buying faux fur are often buying real fur.

This fur is taken from raccoon dogs, rabbits and dogs and bought from countries like China. These countries often do not regulate labeling properly and have no animal welfare laws. Manufacturers and retailers can then import this product and sell it as faux fur.

According to statistics from The Humane Society of the United States, an estimated 75 million dogs, rabbits, raccoon dogs and minks are killed each year to supply the fur industry. Many of these pelts are sold labeled as faux fur. Brands such as Nicole Lee Fabiola, Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s, Saks Incorporated, and Lord & Taylor have all been caught selling real fur mislabeled as faux fur.

The trend has only increased as consumers become more leery of buying fur taken from animals and retailers scramble to make that dollar. It’s a repugnant practice, and one that no amount of regulation can manage. The only way to stop this is to stop the sell of all fur products.

Stop allowing these people to exploit foreign animal welfare policy to sell American’s mislabeled products, especially those products that violate our own policies and animal welfare laws.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Commissioner Ostroff,

In light of continued mislabeling of dog and rabbit fur by retailers and manufacturers as faux fur, the only solution is to ban all fur trade in America. The industry is not one necessary to the American economy, and ultimately does more harm than good. The very regulations put in place to manage it are being circumvented constantly by importing from countries such as China that lack animal welfare laws.

Consumers have a right to know what they are purchasing, and that right is violated knowingly by retailers in order to sell a product. Remove this harmful product from the shelves in America and help save the lives of dogs and rabbits butchered for their skins.

Sincerely,
