End Damaging and Costly Occupation of Wildlife Refuge

Ammon Bundy

Target: FBI Director James B. Comey

Goal: Immediately act to end the occupation of the wildlife refuge in Oregon that is devastating the state’s budget.

The federal government has still not acted to arrest the men who have taken over a government building in the middle of a wildlife refuge in Oregon. Because of this inaction, the necessary increase in state law enforcement presence has already cost Oregon over $100,000. It’s also a massive disruption to the local communities, including the local Native American tribe, and puts surrounding wildlife at risk.

It’s ridiculous that these men have been allowed to occupy this building without consequence. The federal government says it wants to avoid violence, but the state having to divert funds that could be used to protect endangered species or support the state’s poor to handle this spectacle is just another form of violence. Oregon Governor Kate Brown has said that she will petition the federal government to replace the lost funds, but either way, this is costing taxpayers money and leaving wildlife at risk.

Lawbreakers of any other skin color would have long ago been dragged out of that building and thrown in jail. It’s clear that the federal government has the means necessary to swiftly end this ridiculous “protest” whenever it wants. Sign our petition to demand the feds do what they do best and arrest these men before more damage is done to the state of Oregon.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Director Comey,

The standoff between the federal government and the militia group that is occupying the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge building has long been an intolerable situation. I understand that the FBI is currently in “negotiations” with these men, but it’s clear that their intention is to drag this out as long as possible, and it’s creating worsening consequences for the people of Oregon.

Governor Brown recently stated that this spectacle has already cost the state $100,000 in extra law enforcement costs. That’s a lot of money for a single state–money needed to support those in poverty and protect animals like the ones located in the wildlife refuge this militia is occupying. Furthermore, the local Native American tribe is citing threats to their historical sites, and who knows how much damage has been done to the animals in this refuge?

This has gone on for far too long. We all know that the U.S. federal government has the means to end this swiftly without costing any lives, and we know that you likely would have ended this long ago if these men weren’t white. We demand that you immediately act to arrest and remove these men from the wildlife refuge and let life in Oregon return to normal.

Sincerely,
