Target: Sergey Ivanovich Kislyak, Russian Diplomat and Ambassador to the U.S.
Goal: Send monkeys to sanctuary rather than space.
Russia is currently training four monkeys to be sent to Mars in 2017. The four macaques being trained have years of stressful experiments and tests ahead of them. Then, after all their training, they will be strapped down in capsules and shot into space. Space travel is already a frightening experience for humans but, to an animal that has no idea what is going on, the experience is terrifying.
This is a complete step backwards for space exploration. NASA, the European Space Agency and the Chinese National Space Administration have continued their work in space without the use of primates due to the advance technology that is now available.
If these four monkeys are sent to space, it is very unlikely they will make the return trip. Sign this petition and demand that these monkeys are sent to a sanctuary rather than to space.
Dear Mr. Kislyak,
Russia is planning on sending four monkeys to Mars in 2017. These monkeys are currently being subjected to countless stressful and frightening experiments and then will have to deal with the stressful endeavor of space exploration. This is inhumane and unnecessary.
Thanks to modern technology, there are many other ways to study space without the use of primates. NASA, the European Space Agency and the Chinese National Space Administration have continued their work in space without using primates.
If these monkeys are sent it Mars, it is very unlikely they will survive. Please urge Russia to consider other options for future space exploration that do not cost lives. These monkeys should be sent to a sanctuary where they can live a happy life.
