Save Deer From Being Trapped and Sent to Slaughter

Target: Steve Ashlock, President of the Sun City Texas Homeowners Association Board

Goal: Cancel plans to trap local deer and send them to a slaughterhouse.

Dozens of deer face a horrific end if plans to trap them and transport them to a slaughterhouse go ahead. A Homeowners Association in Sun City, Texas is resorting to a brutal cull of its local deer. This involves resident deer being caught in nets, and bucks being held down while their antlers are chopped off with deafening and terrifying power saws. The suffering and frightened animals are then hauled onto trucks and transported for several hours to the slaughterhouse where they will be brutally killed.

PETA has spoken out against this method, with spokeswoman Tori Perry saying, “Deer are wild animals with strong flight instincts, so this is absolutely terrifying for them to be trapped under a net and then tossed into a truck while fully conscious to endure noises and jostling while transported to a slaughterhouse.”

These inhumane methods are not only terrifying to these gentle and easily frightened prey animals but also tear deer families apart and leave young, vulnerable animals to die of starvation, dehydration or attacks from predators. Furthermore, these mass killings don’t actually work at keeping wild populations down in a specific area, as more deer soon move in to take up the slaughtered animals’ place. Surviving female deer have also been reported to breed at accelerated rates to make up for the toll taken on the population.

This misguided population control program is incredibly brutal and unnecessary. Mass killings are not the solution to keeping wild deer out of residential areas. Instead, there are many non-lethal and humane alternatives to this cruel plan, such as prohibiting the feeding of deer, fencing off property or planting deer-resistant plants. Sign this petition urging the Sun City Texas Homeowners Association Board to scrap this inhumane plan and replace it with a humane and more effective program.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Ashlock,

Your homeowners association is reportedly planning another mass deer cull. As you are aware, this plan involves dozens of local deer being caught in nets, bucks having their antlers sawed off and these frightened animals being hauled into trucks and transported several hours to a slaughterhouse.

These methods are not only unnecessarily brutal but also ineffective. More deer will soon move in to take up the slaughtered animals’ place. Surviving female deer also often breed at accelerated rates after a dip in the population. There are many non-lethal and humane alternatives to this mass slaughter, such as prohibiting the feeding of deer, fencing off property or planting deer-resistant plants.

Deer are easily frightened prey animals and netting them before packing them into jostling and noisy trucks to be slaughtered is incredibly inhumane. This cull also tears deer families apart, leaving young, vulnerable animals to die of starvation. I urge you to replace this cruel method of population control with a humane and more effective alternative.

Sincerely,

  1. ANOTHER bunch of frickin’ yahoos loose in society (the humans, not the deer)! Are they all too stupid to use their supposedly-‘superior’ human brains to learn to live WITH wildlife instead of terrifying, then exterminating them? Cull these idiots instead, the useless, ill-educated, wildlife-warring twits!

  2. This isn’t fair, one killed dog gets far more signatures than a great number of poor Deer who experience far more agonising pain.
Don’t get me wrong, for it is sad for the dog too, but this case is easily as horrible if not even more horrific.
I’d wish people cared more about the rest of the animal kingdom instead of just a handful of species…
    It’s unfair
