Justice for Dog Severely Burned with Boiling Water

Target: Aji Seco Restaurant, Santiago, Chile

Goal: Fire waiter who allegedly poured boiling water on dog.

A dog recently suffered severe burns on 20 percent of its body after a waiter reportedly threw boiling water on it. Polaco, a small white dog, wandered into a restaurant not far away from the location of his owner’s business as in Latin America, it is common for pets to be allowed to wander freely around their neighborhoods. Rather than simply kicking the dog out, the waiter grabbed a pot of boiling water and poured it on the dog, who wailed as it left the restaurant, according to a witness.

Backlash against the restaurant, Aji Seco, started right after a witness posted on Twitter about the incident. After public disapproval, the waiter volunteered to pay 20,000 Chilean pesos for veterinary costs, although that would have only covered 10 percent of the bill. Since the incident, protests by the community as well as animal rights groups forced the restaurant to close for a day.

Polaco ended up suffering second and third degree burns on his body, and required extensive veterinary care. Fortunately, no permanent damage was done and he is recovering at a veterinary clinic with his owner by his side. So far, the restaurant has given no statement about the incident or the fate of the waiter.

The waiter allegedly responsible for hurting Polaco seems to have committed an unspeakably cruel act that not only reflects badly on him, but on the restaurant as a whole. While an animal rights group is already pursuing legal action, the restaurant must also send a clear message that they do not tolerate such behavior. Sign the petition below to demand the waiter who burned Polaco with boiling water be immediately fired.

Dear Aji Seco Management,

A waiter at your establishment is reported to have poured boiling water on a dog after it wandered into your restaurant. The dog, Polaco, belonged to the owner of a nearby business and was allowed to roam the streets freely as is customary in Chile. The dog, who screeched and yelped in agony while leaving the restaurant, was found to have second and third degree burns covering 20 percent of its body.

While an animal rights group has already started legal action against the waiter, it is imperative Aji Seco take action as well to show that it does not support this cruel behavior. We, the undersigned, demand the waiter who poured boiling water on an innocent dog be immediately fired.
