Target: Founder of WhereWhitePeopleMeet.Com, Sam Russell
Goal: Take down the website because it promotes racial prejudice.
Where White People Meet is a new dating site that caters only to the white demographic. However, since the specific demographic that is being catered to is already one of the most desired on other dating websites, many began to point out the website’s blatant racial prejudice. This isn’t the first time that a dating site caters to people of a certain identity, as is the case with Christian Mingle and Our Time, which caters to people over 50, but most of these sites cater to religions and specific ages, not races.
Researchers have found that people who have a racial preference on dating websites are more likely to be racist. Sixty-four percent of the people they studied said it was acceptable to state a racial preference on these websites, and, while those numbers aren’t exactly racist, when the data is crosschecked with results from a Quick Discrimination Index, a survey that measures attitudes on race and diversity that participants also completed, they found that people with high levels of racial preference also scored high on the survey. The findings of this survey just further prove that racial prejudice still exists in the world, and is still actively being practiced in a subtle way. Please sign the petition below to have this racist website removed.
Dear Mr. Russell,
There are many cases of black and Asian men and women on dating sites who are turned down immediately simply because of their skin color. Websites like yours give out the impression that black people or Hispanic people or Asian people should feel ashamed of the ethnicity they were born with. These people constantly suffer rejection from people simply because they aren’t white. Their minds quickly translate race-based rejection to “Your body isn’t worth loving.”
It’s understood that you claim that starting this website wasn’t racially motivated, but the truth of the matter is that the people that use your website are discriminating against other races. White people are the most desired demographic on dating websites, with black women and Asian men being the least desired, so creating a website like Where White People Meet just spreads the animosity towards those two demographics even more. The title of the website itself promotes racism. “Where The White People Meet” just screams “white people only.” To deny a person solely based on ethnicity, without getting to know them, is racist. I ask that you please take down your website.
