Target: Zachary T. Fardon, U.S. Attorney Northern Illinois Eastern Division
Goal: Conduct an independent investigation into allegations of a cop raping a pregnant woman and punish the officer involved.
A 20-year-old woman has filed charges accusing police a officer of stalking and rape. She alleges that Officer Richard Jones began stalking her several months prior to the rape and went so far as to add his number to her phone without her permission. Although she refused to answer any of his calls or messages, she states that Jones continued to follow her.
She further indicates that the stalking culminated in rape when Jones cornered her at a gas station while she was filling up her vehicle. Despite both visible signs of pregnancy and her protests, Jones allegedly raped her, threatening to arrest her if she did not cooperate with his sexual demands.
This is not the first time Jones has been accused of such behavior and, according to federal investigations, this area of Illinois has one of the worst records in the country with regard to police oversight and procedures. Demand independent investigators are brought in to review the department’s handling of these accusations and that Officer Jones be appropriately punished.
Dear Mr. Fardon,
Harvey, Ill. has a reputation for poor police oversight and procedural misconduct. In the latest incident, a 20-year-old pregnant woman accuses Officer Richard Jones of stalking and rape. She asserts that Officer Jones threatened to arrest her if she did not give in to his sexual demands.
This is not the first time Officer Jones has been accused of such misconduct, yet the police department and mayor have yet to visibly act to remedy the situation or investigate Officer Jones. We demand an independent investigation of Officer Jones and the entire Harvey police force. We further demand that disciplinary and legal actions be taken wherever necessary.
