Success: Obama to Expand Background Checks for Gun Sales

Target: U.S. President Barack Obama

Goal: Applaud President Obama for using executive action to enact common sense gun safety, including expanding background checks and better monitoring of gun sales.

Thanks in part to petitions like ForceChange’s Use Executive Authority to Promote Gun Safety, President Obama has used his executive authority to expand background checks and monitoring of gun sales, including online and at gun shows, in an effort to combat the recent gun violence plaguing the U.S.

Congress has made no real progress towards enacting any gun safety laws meant to protect U.S. citizens against gun violence. So, Obama has used his executive actions to take a stand towards preventing gun tragedies like those in Newtown, Charleston and San Bernardino.

Obama’s plan will work towards keeping guns out out of the wrong hands and those who are trying to avoid registering as a weapons owner. The plan will require more government workers to focus on policing gun sales by adding 200 new Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms agents and more than 230 FBI agents to make sure that background checks are performed on all gun purchasers.

These actions are vital towards ensuring a future where there are less tragedies and lives lost due to gun violence. This should not be such a huge and troubling problem here in the U.S., and Obama’s actions will hopefully help stop this problem. Applaud Obama for taking a stand against gun violence.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear President Obama,

The U.S. has been plagued by a ridiculous number of gun violence tragedies in recent years. From college students, to elementary students, to movie goers, it seems no one has been safe. Congress has decided to sit back and take no real action towards combating this huge problem. However, you have finally risen to take a stand against the gun violence plaguing this country and, for that, I am writing to thank you.

It’s vital that we enact common sense gun laws to make some kind of move towards preventing these senseless tragedies. Thank you for standing up against gun violence and using your executive order to expand background checks and monitoring of gun sales.

Sincerely,
