Prosecute Woman for Allegedly Starving Dogs

Target: Ernie Lee, District Attorney of Onslow County

Goal: Punish woman for allegedly severely neglecting dogs and allowing them to die of starvation.

Three dog carcasses were found thrown in the backyard of a Jacksonville, North Carolina home. We need to take action to better ensure the person who did this is legally punished if it is found that any acts of cruelty were displayed towards these animals.

Teresa Hewitt called police on one of her female tenants in October after she noticed how skinny the tenant’s five dogs were. Although the lady may have been warned that the animals needed to be provided with better treatment, the dogs’ health likely continued to decline as indicated by the dead animals found in the backyard. While no information has been reported pertaining to the other dogs, likely because the lady was recently evicted, it is a good possibility that they are currently being neglected or are now dead.

If the lady was no longer able to take care of her animals, she should have–at the very least–dropped them off at a shelter. Instead, she supposedly allowed them to starve to death and disposed of their bodies as if they were trash.

Demand this woman be punished for her actions if she is found guilty of having committed any acts of animal cruelty. Animals do not deserve to be treated in this deplorable manner.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear District Attorney Lee,

The bodies of three dogs were found rotting in plastic containers. It is important that whoever did this be given a harsh sentence if it is found these animals were abused.

Teresa Hewitt noticed five of her tenant’s dogs were emaciated in October and decided to call the police. Although it is likely that the tenant was warned and told that she needed to provide better care for her animals, no arrest was made. It is highly likely that all five dogs continued to starve since three out of the five dogs were found dead in the back of her home. While the state of the other two dogs is not known, it is likely that they are also dead or are currently being abused.

Even though the tenant may not have had the financial means to properly take care of her dogs, she could have dropped them off at an animal shelter. Taking such an action would have at least made it more likely that the dogs would have been adopted.

It is for these reasons that I encourage you to suggest that this woman be legally punished if any of these allegations turn out to be true. Animals do not deserve to be neglected and then tossed outside like yesterday’s trash.

Sincerely,

  1. “So many people insist they are against animal abuse, cruelty, suffering and the inhumane treatment of animals, yet they don’t understand they are actively engaging in and supporting egregious suffering, abuse, cruelty and inhumane treatment when they eat animals and their ‘by-products.’ If you are against cruelty, suffering and inhumane treatment, then you go vegan. It’s just that simple.” – Sarah Kiser
