Target: Calhoun, Florida State Attorney Glenn Hess
Goal: Hold police department and hospital responsible for the death of a woman who was allegedly forcibly removed from hospital and arrested, despite saying she was still suffering.
A woman showed up at a hospital with breathing trouble, but instead of receiving proper healthcare, she reportedly was discharged, then forcibly removed and handcuffed. Authorities say she was still having breathing problems, so she didn’t want to leave. When an officer arrested her and started escorting her away, she reportedly collapsed.
The hospital allegedly didn’t take the patient seriously and it cost her her life. As the family’s attorney stated, the hospital and police should’ve allowed her to stay until she felt well again instead of handcuffing and forcing the patient out of the hospital. It’s also possible the police involved may have contributed to her untimely, tragic death. A regional vice president for the Florida State chapter of the NAACP says they strongly believe her death was a result of negligence on behalf of the hospital and police.
Had the police and hospital staff behaved professionally and listened to the patient who came in for treatment, she might still be alive. Instead, she was allegedly treated like a criminal. Demand the hospital and police department be held responsible and punished to the fullest extent, if guilty of contributing to her death.
Dear Florida State Attorney Glenn Hess,
A woman was reportedly forced to leave Liberty Calhoun hospital where she went for breathing problems, but ended up being handcuffed and escorted away by police. It seems the hospital, which allegedly had her arrested for wanting to stay until her breathing problem was treated, as well as the police, behaved in an irresponsible, unprofessional manner and it may have cost her her life.
The police seem to have overreacted when they allegedly forcibly handcuffed a woman in need of medical attention. We urge you to hold the Calhoun Liberty Hospital and Blountstown police department responsible and ensure they receive the maximum penalty if evidence shows that they contributed to this woman’s death.
