Protect Historic Mountain Range from Industrialization

Target: United States Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell

Goal: Protect coveted mountain range from development and industrialization.

After years of protection by conservation laws, the Castle Mountains are now in danger of being wiped out by industrialization. The mountains and their surrounding habitats are home to countless animal and plant species, and the destruction of their homes would be devastating. The government must intervene to protect this beautiful and vital natural land.

With an elevation of 5,141 feet, the Castle Mountains are a staple of the Mojave Desert. Bighorn sheep, mountain lions, and golden eagles all reside in the area, and scientists have identified over 30 different types of native grasses. The area is also home to the iconic Joshua trees. Officials have also been considering reintroducing pronghorn antelope, which has been absent from the region for almost a century. The return of this species would mark an enormous victory for conservationists.

This reintroduction, however, will not be possible if administration officials give in to the pressures of for-profit companies that wish to develop the land. While good for the economy, construction and industrialization in the Castle Mountains would ruin the entire ecosystem. Development, no matter how carefully regulated, would fragment habitat, threaten natural water sources, and obliterate the iconic imagery of a truly gorgeous setting.

The Castle Mountains are a popular attraction and enjoy strong support from the local community. Development on such an historic range would scar one of America’s finest mountain ranges, all in the name of a quick profit. Buildings can always be placed elsewhere, but ranges such as the Castle Mountains only have one chance. Sign the petition below to ensure that these mountains, and the plants and animals that rely on them, remain protected.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Secretary Jewell,

The Castle Mountains area is currently threatened by developers who wish to industrialize the iconic range. This cannot be allowed to happen, as development, no matter how carefully regulated, would fragment habitat, threaten natural water sources, and obliterate the iconic imagery of a truly gorgeous setting. Bighorn sheep, mountain lions, and golden eagles all call the area home and the destruction of their habitat would be devastating to their survival prospects.

The Castle Mountains are a popular tourist attraction and enjoy strong support from the local community. Your department must not let one of America’s finest mountain ranges be scarred in the name of a quick profit. Buildings can always be placed elsewhere, but ranges such as the Castle Mountains only have one chance. Please keep these mountains protected for both our sake and the sake of the animals and plants that rely on them.

Sincerely,

Stop destroying all the places that are home to the animals that have every right to live as they have been for x amount of years. The greed of humans never ceases to amaze me.

  2. Please protect our last remaining natural lands and forests. They are a extremely precious commodity…… But only in their natural state! I believe we as a society are the protectors and good stewards of our beautiful planet. And we must take this responsibility very seriously!
