Retract Acquittal of Police Commander Who Allegedly Shoved Gun Down Man’s Throat

Target: Cook County, Chicago Judge Diane Cannon

Goal: Reverse acquittal of police commander accused of shoving his gun down a man’s throat while holding Taser to his groin, and threatening to kill him.

A Chicago police commander was accused of allegedly shoving his weapon down a man’s throat, but was acquitted of the charges, even though DNA was reportedly found on the commander’s gun matching that of the alleged victim. The police commander allegedly chased the victim into a building, then shoved the barrel down his throat while holding a Taser to his crotch and threatening to kill him. The victim testified that he was spitting blood after the alleged attack.

The accusations appear legitimate since the victim’s DNA was reportedly found on the commander’s service weapon. It’s disgusting that any judge could let an officer — who swore to serve and protect — run free after allegedly committing this level of violence. Letting him go will only perpetuate the problem of law enforcement apparently being above the law and being allowed to commit heinous crimes without punishment. Demand the judge — who an attorney says treated the victim as if he was the one on trial — reverse her decision so other people aren’t put at risk by this allegedly violent commander.

Dear Judge Diane,

It’s been reported that you chose to acquit the police commander who was accused of shoving the barrel of his service weapon down someone’s throat, even though the victim’s DNA was allegedly found on the commander’s weapon.

We’re disappointed that you would choose not to hold law enforcement officials responsible when they break the laws they’re paid to uphold. This man swore to serve and protect and he should’ve been punished to the fullest extent of the law, not allowed to behave so violently then get away with it. We demand you hold this violent commander responsible for his sickening criminal behavior before more members of the public end up abused by him.
