Target: Susan L. Pamerleau, Sheriff of Bexar County, Texas Police Department
Goal: Fire two police officers who shot and killed a man who allegedly had his hands up in surrender.
Two Texas police officers, Greg Vasquez and Robert Sanchez, shot and killed a man who allegedly surrendered during a domestic violence situation. The police were called to the home of Gilbert Flores by the man’s mother. The officers showed up and faced off against Flores in the driveway of his home. Flores stood across from the officers with his hands in the air, holding a knife. After five minutes of back and forth discussion with the officers, Flores approached the cop car and put his knife away. Flores then took a few steps away from the knife with his hands remaining in the air, following the officers’ orders. After another minute of discussion, the officers opened fire on Flores and he was killed immediately.
The events described were not publicly known until this past week when a video of the incident was posted on the internet following the closing of the court case involving officer Vasquez and officer Sanchez. The final ruling in the court cased released the officers of any charges, allowing them to return to work. For the duration of the trial, both men were on a paid leave of absence from duty. They were being paid to sit in a courtroom, knowing that they ended a man’s life for no reason. Flores’ hands were in the air when he was killed. Flores was murdered for following police orders.
These two officers will return to work and live out their daily lives without this incident affecting them. Meanwhile, Flores’ family and friends will continue to mourn his loss. If these officers are willing to kill a man who allegedly surrendered, what is to say that they would not do it again? Sign this petition and ask the Sheriff to terminate these officers to ensure that more lives are not lost at the hands of these officers.
Dear Sheriff Pamerleau,
I am writing to you today regarding a case involving two of your sheriffs, Greg Vasquez and Robert Sanchez. These officers were called to the home of Gilbert Flores. Flores stood across from the officers in the driveway of his home and spoke to them while holding his hands above his head. Flores allegedly surrendered his knife at the officers’ request, immediately returning his hands to the air after handing it over. After a minute of conversation after Flores released his knife, the officers opened fire upon Flores and he was killed immediately.
The public was unaware of what exactly happened during the incident. However, a video of Flores’ death was posted online last week, following the officers’ release. These officers shot and killed a man who had allegedly surrendered to them. If they are willing to end a man’s life once, who is to say that they would not do it again? I urge you to terminate these officers of employment to ensure that more innocent lives are not ended at the hands of these men.
