Punish Man for Allegedly Stabbing Puppy Repeatedly

Target: Brandy Cook, District Attorney of Rowan County, NC

Goal: Recommend harsh prison sentence for man who allegedly nearly killed a puppy by violently stabbing it multiple times, if found guilty.

A puppy was allegedly stabbed several times by a man with a hunting knife. We need to take action to ensure this man is given a harsh legal sentence if he is found guilty of this thoughtless and violent act.

Neighbors indicated the man was house sitting for a couple, who likely gave the homeless man the job to be nice. One neighbor claimed she called the police after she witnessed the man stab the dog multiple times while the dog was yelping. According to authorities, the man used an eight-inch hunting knife to commit the act. Phillip John Shoemaker reportedly told police he stabbed the dog because it bit him. However, he could have simply walked or ran away from the animal if this had been the case.

Although the dog was able to get away and did receive treatment, it is not yet known if the dog will survive. Sadly, this man has also been accused by neighbors of hurting other pets.

Urge the district attorney to suggest this man be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law if he is found guilty of this senseless crime. No animal deserves to be treated in such a disgusting manner.

Dear District Attorney Cook,

A man has been accused of stabbing a dog multiple times with a hunting knife. If he is found guilty, it is important that he be severely legally penalized in order to better ensure other animals will remain safe.

According to neighbors, Philip John Shoemaker was house sitting for the couple, who may have given the job to the homeless man to try and help him out. A person who lived near the couple said she called the police when she allegedly noticed Shoemaker stabbing the dog multiple times while the dog was crying in pain. Although he claims that he stabbed the dog because it bit him, the man should never have responded in such a violent manner.

While the dog was able to get veterinary care for its wounds, it may not survive since the damage was so severe. In addition, neighbors claim that they had to stop Shoemaker from kicking dogs and committing various acts of violence against other pets.

It is for these reasons that I urge you to suggest this man be given a harsh legal penalty if he is found guilty. No dog deserves to be abused by the person who is supposed to be ensuring the animal is receiving the best possible care.

  2. Indra Rajapakse says:

  3. Karen Remnant says:

I know what I’d like to see happen to this bastard!

  4. “So many people insist they are against animal abuse, cruelty, suffering and the inhumane treatment of animals, yet they don’t understand they are actively engaging in and supporting egregious suffering, abuse, cruelty and inhumane treatment when they eat animals and their ‘by-products.’ If you are against cruelty, suffering and inhumane treatment, then you go vegan. It’s just that simple.” – Sarah Kiser

  5. Bill Brennan says:

Jyst a few moments with this scumbag.

  6. i would so love to do the same to this evil vile lowlife scum, what a brave person, he must be so proud of himself.

  7. This monster should rend in individual parts

  8. This MONSTER is unfit to live in a civilized society. Best to lock him up …. far away from both people and animals. What he has done is unconscionable and I am 100% sure that if given the opportunity he will do this again. Hope he rots in Hell !!!!!!!

  9. Gerri Burkhart says:

I agree, he needs to be given the same treatment he gave to that little puppy. This guy must feel like a MAN now, to beat up on a defenseless animal. Yes, just 10 minutes with him please. Jerk, scum of the earth, low life, I have few other words for you, but I will hold my tongue. You are a bastard though. Rot in hell for eternity.

  10. Czerny Auyang says:

Letting this psychopath go with a slap on the wrist will encourage other abusers and future killers that their actions will have no consequence. People like him will only go on to hurt others. He needs to spend time in prisons where animal abusers are not treated kindly.

  11. Cecily Colloby says:

Just stab this scum to death and be done with…

  12. Sylvia Browning says:

Where is justice for animal abuse? Where, oh where?

  13. What is this imbecile doing walking about freely? — he’s a huge danger to all of society — Throw the idiot in prison — what’s left to say & do ? — throw him in prison until we KNOW he will NEVER repeat his vile, vicious crime.

  14. Alice Knight says:

Did the couple who allowed him to house sit become familiar at all with him?Did this couple own the dog? I have found reading different animal cases on Force Change, when an animal bites the individual they immediately retaliate by inflicting pain and later killing the animal. Is this a growing concern when people commit crimes of animal abuse dealing with a power struggle or dealing with their own hostility and taking it out on a vulnerable animal? In any case, he should be given a lengthy prison term simply because if he is free to go, allegedly he is homeless, who can prevent him from doing this again?
