Success: Animal Agriculture’s Effect on Climate Change Discussed at Paris Conference

Target: Roni Neff, Attending Director of the Food System Sustainability Program at the Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future

Goal: Applaud the panel that discussed the effects of animal agriculture on climate change and what must be done to help resolve this problem at the recent climate change conference in Paris.

Thanks in part to awareness raised by petitions like ForceChange’s Combat Climate Change by Regulating Animal Agriculture, a panel was held at the Paris talks about climate change to discuss animal agriculture’s effects on climate change, an issue that is seemingly always left out of the discussion on climate change.

Various studies have found that animal agriculture is actually the biggest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and one of the biggest factors in the destruction of the environment. That is why it is vital that animal agriculture is part of the conversation on how to combat climate change, so that necessary policies can be made to regulate the industry in an environmentally friendly manner.

Roni Neff, Attending Director of the Food System Sustainability Program at the Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future, spoke on the panel and noted that it’s unfortunate that the connection between meat consumption and climate change is not getting the serious attention it deserves.

The existence of this panel is a huge step towards shining the light on this vital issue and enacting change when it comes to animal agriculture’s effect on climate change. Applaud this significant discussion and push for more of them in the future.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Director Neff,

You recently spoke on a panel at the Paris climate change talks regarding the effects of animal agriculture and meat consumption on the environment. These issues are major factors in climate change that are often overlooked because of the power of the meat and dairy industries, so it’s vital that experts like you shed light on these issues so that we can start to move towards progress.

As you said, this issue is not getting the attention it deserves, so discussions like this are essential for moving the conversation forward. Thank you for participating in this important discussion and I hope for more discussions like this in the future.

Sincerely,

Amazing that this was even talked about, much less at a global gathering!
