Target: David Prater, Oklahoma County District Attorney
Goal: Applaud district attorney for successfully prosecuting police officer accused of sexually abusing 36 women.
A former police officer went to Oklahoma City’s poorest neighborhoods and sexually assaulted women for nearly six months, according to Oklahoma County’s district attorney. Daniel Holtzclaw, a former Eastern Michigan University linebacker, targeted women with criminal records, approached them and showed his badge, and then committed acts of sexual misconduct including unwanted oral sodomy and rape. The jury found him guilty of 18 charges, including four counts of forced oral sodomy and four counts of rape.
The serial rapist was fired from the Oklahoma City Police Department in January. In his termination letter, Police Chief William Citty said Holtzclaw’s crimes were the “greatest abuse of police authority I have witnessed.” Holtzclaw targeted poor women with criminal records because any claim they might have made against him would be discounted.
The jury has asked that Holtzclaw be sentence to more than 250 years in prison. Applaud District Attorney David Prater for successfully prosecuting this monster who used his police records and his authority to prey on helpless women.
Dear District Attorney Prater,
I am writing to applaud you and the jury for rendering a guilty verdict against former Oklahoma City Police Officer Daniel Holtzclaw. To imagine a law enforcement figure targeting victims based upon their criminal background and then using his authority to sexually abuse them is horrifying, and, as said by Police Chief William Citty, an example of the “greatest abuse of police authority.”
Thank you for prosecuting this man to the fullest extent of the law. One can only hope that once the sentencing is complete, this sexual predator will be off the streets for good and women, regardless of their criminal background, can breathe a little easier in Oklahoma City.
