Praise Activists Who Freed Chained Elephant

Thong Bai Lek Chailert

Target: Lek Chailert, Elephant Activist

Goal: Thank activists for their hard work in freeing an elephant.

Thong Bai is a well known elephant in Thailand who has appeared in movies and advertisements. However, his life is far from glamorous. Thong Bai has spent over four decades in chains. Thankfully, his days in chains have ended. Elephant activist Lek Chailert worked hard to get rid of Thong Bai’s chains and move him to a reputable sanctuary.

When Lek Chailert first found Thong Bai in chains, she invited other elephant activists to the scene. She wanted more people to see Thong Bai’s current living situation so she could have their support to help the elephant. Activists were able to convince Thong Bai’s owner to retire him. They found a sanctuary called The Surin Project, which is a sanctuary for elephants who have only known captivity.

On December 1st, 2015, Thong Bai had his shackles taken off for good and was brought to his new home at The Surin Project. At first, he was a little hesitant and nervous with his new found freedom. However, this is typical for elephants who have spent their lives in captivity. It’ll take some time for Thong Bai to get used to his freedom but things can only get better from here on out.

Sign this letter and thank Lek Chailert and the rest of the activists for working so hard on freeing Thong Bai. Their efforts clearly paid off.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Ms. Chailert,

As you know, Thong Bai is a very well known elephant in Thailand.  However, for the last four decades, he has been in chains. This all changed thanks to you and the rest of the activists who worked so hard to help Thong Bai.

Now, Thong Bai lives a life of freedom in The Surin Project, which is a sanctuary for elephants that have only known captivity. Thong Bai finally knows what freedom feels like and will never have to live a life in chains again.

Thong Bai is still getting used to his new found freedom and is a bit hesitant. However, things will only get better for him here on out. It is truly an inspiring story and it could not have been done without all your hard work and dedication. I just want to thank you for all you did for Thong Bai. Thanks to you and the rest of the activists, the rest of his days will be happy ones.

Sincerely,

  1. Thank you ! Thank you ! Thank you ! You have made the world a more compassionate place ! These elephants thank you ! You are hero’s!

  2. IF ANY ELEPHANT HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM THEIR NATURAL HABITAT THE LAWS MUST PREVENT THEM FROM BEING PUT ANYWHERE SHORT OF A ZOO OR A SANTUARY THAT CLOSELY RESEMBLES THEIR NATURAL HABITAT. THE SAME GOES FOR LIONS, APES AND MONKEYS AND A LONG LIST OF OTHER ANIMALS THAT WOULD RESEMBLE THE GUEST REGISTRY OF NOAHS ARC. NO PERSON ON THIS PLANET HAS THE RIGHT TO “BULLY” OR ABUSE A LESSOR ANIMAL “JUST BECAUSE HE CAN.” OF COURSE ANIMAL RIGHTS LAWS SIMILAR TO THE ANIMAL RIGHTS LAWS IN MOST EUROPEAN COUNTRIES. BUT THAT’S NOT LIKELY TO HAPPEN ANYTIME SOON. THERE HAVE BEEN MANY STATE AND FEDERAL BILLS INTRODUCED FOR SUCH LAWS BUT NEARLY ALL OF THEM GET STOPPED DEAD IN THEIR TRACKS BY REPUBLICAN SENATORS AND LEGISLATORS. THE ONLY WAY ANYTHING WILL EVER IMPROVE IS TO VOTE OUT THE REPUBLICANS. THE VOTING RECORDS FOR ANIMAL RIGHTS LAWS CAN BE FOUND ON THE INTERNET AND LIST SHOWS DEMOCRATS-YES, REPUBLICANS-NO ALMOST TO THE MAN. CHECK THEM OUT.

  3. Unfortunately all of the facts to this story are not true. Lek just posted something on Facebook stating that they cannot say if he will go back to work or not. This means he may have his shackles put back on and worked at the heavy hand of a mahout for ceremonies and such. It is better that he does not remain chained to a tree for all of his days, but he is by no means free.
