Dog Whose Mouth Was Taped Shut Needs Justice

Target: Cary, North Carolina Police Department

Goal: Punish woman for allegedly taping her dog’s mouth closed.

A woman allegedly taped her dog’s mouth shut and shared a picture of it on Facebook. Katherine Lemansky, a Connecticut resident who goes by “Katie Brown” on Facebook, shared the photo of her chocolate lab with the caption “This is what happens when you don’t shut up.” Amid numerous responses chastising her behavior, Brown responded- “Don’t panic everyone it was only for a minute but hasn’t barked since… POINT MADE!!!” The post went viral and now police in both Connecticut and Florida are investigating. While the woman has disappeared from all social media at this time, she has yet to delete the horrific photo.

This comes on the heels of another animal abuse case involving a dog whose mouth was taped closed with electrical tape. Caitlyn, a Staffordshire Terrier Mix, endured 48 hours of suffering when her mouth was taped shut with her tongue sticking out. During this time, she had no way of ingesting food or water. Caitlyn was in serious condition when she was dumped on a doorstep. She suffered extensive damage to her mouth during this time and nearly lost her tongue. A North Charleston man was arrested in the case and charged with torture and ill treatment of animals.

It seems clear that this woman’s behavior constitutes abuse and cannot be condoned. Animal abuse is not something to be joked about or taken lightly. Her dog could have suffered serious damage in only a few minutes. The woman has been charged with animal cruelty, and by signing the petition below you can ask authorities to continue pressing charges for this inhumane act.

Dear Cary Police Department,

The animal abuse allegedly exhibited by Katherine Lemansky cannot be tolerated. Her Facebook post, showing her dog with its mouth taped shut, was cruel and inhumane. Electrical tape can do serious damage to a dog’s mouth and tongue in only a few minutes.

A similar case occurred earlier this year in North Charleston, South Carolina. Caitlyn, a 15-month-old Staffordshire Terrier Mix, had her mouth taped shut for 48 hours. This resulted in her being unable to eat or drink during this time. By the time she received the medical attention she needed, Caitlyn’s tongue was black. The severe damage done to her tongue and mouth took months to heal and she nearly lost her tongue completely.

We thank you for charging Katherine Lemansky for animal cruelty, and we encourage you to continue pressing charges to make sure that her dog receives justice.

  1. “So many people insist they are against animal abuse, cruelty, suffering and the inhumane treatment of animals, yet they don’t understand they are actively engaging in and supporting egregious suffering, abuse, cruelty and inhumane treatment when they eat animals and their ‘by-products.’ If you are against cruelty, suffering and inhumane treatment, then you go vegan. It’s just that simple.” – Sarah Kiser

  2. barbara howarth says:

to tape a dogs mouth is inhuman and to joke about it..sick bitch…tape her mouth and hands and throw her in jail…this makes me mad….sick to my stomach…cruelty never fails.

  3. Make her accountable & responsible — we do NOT want repeats of abuse & cruelty to animals.

Give her jail time along with a stiff penalty.

There is the RIGHT way to teach your dog proper behavior — being callous, cruel & irrational is NOT the answer.

  4. There are many harmless methods to distract a dog from barking unnecessarily, one of which is to dab a tiny bit of chilli spice onto the pet’s lip. Absolutely no need for physical cruelty & mistreatment! People who enjoy hurting animals should be punished
    with a jail term.
