Protect Planned Parenthood from Shooters

Target: Vicki Cowart, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood

Goal: Implement tighter security for Planned Parenthood clinics after an attack that left at least 16 injured.

Three people are dead and nine injured, including five injured and one killed police officers, after a gunman reportedly opened fire inside a Planned Parenthood center that offers abortions as one of its many services for women’s health. The police department spokesman said officers confronted the shooter inside the building and shots were exchanged. According to reports, authorities were concerned about explosives being involved in the attack, but after a five-hour standoff with police, the gunman finally surrendered and no further details have been released.

According to CBS, the clinic was guarded by security when the gunman entered. Outlets say law enforcement has been concerned for several months about targeted attacks on abortion centers and that in September, the FBI sent out a warning about this very type of issue. It’s a shame that they were so aware of this issue, yet they didn’t bother with implementing tight, sufficient security for the clinics.

Planned Parenthood clinics do not have sufficient security. It’s common knowledge that abortion clinics are a frequent target for violence, and many have been murdered just for being in a clinic that offers this service to women. There’s no reason for such a lack of security in these places when they’re so frequently targeted. This is violence against women and it must stop now. Demand tighter security for abortion clinics to help prevent more tragic violence.

Dear President Cowart,

Yet another Planned Parenthood clinic was the target of a violent outburst. A gunman opened fire inside a Planned Parenthood clinic, leaving three dead, including one police officer, and nine others injured. These clinics, including the one that was just under attack, provide women with vital healthcare services such as breast cancer screenings and more.

Had the proper security measures been put into place, people may not have been injured. This senseless violence that targets women has been allowed to go on for too long. Please implement tighter security to prevent further violence.
