Target: Marlene Senechal, Managing Attorney for the Adult Prosecution Division, Hennepin County
Goal: Punish the white supremacists who allegedly shot five Black Lives Matter protesters to the fullest extent of the law.
Five black protesters were shot by a group of white supremacists during a rally to protest the killing of a handcuffed black man by police, according to reports. This group had been reportedly showing up to the protests every night to counter-protest against the Black Lives Matter movement. No violence was committed against the white supremacists, but when the Black Lives Matter crowd tried to herd them away from the center of the rally, the white men allegedly opened fire on them, leaving five seriously injured.
There are currently three suspects in the shootings, all white men, and one has been arrested so far. There are plenty of witnesses who can attest to this malicious shooting which was no doubt motivated by hatred for black people. The protesters have been completely peaceful and just wanted racists to stay away from the bulk of the protest, which included small children.
This shooting could set a dangerous precedent and embolden white supremacists across the country. If these three men aren’t dealt with harshly and given the maximum possible sentence for attacking innocent, peaceful protesters, others could come to think they can get away with attacking and even murdering black people and other people of color. Sign this petition to demand that the prosecutor pursue the harshest possible sentence for each of the men who shot Black Lives Matter protesters.
Dear Ms. Senechal,
Recently, five peaceful Black Lives Matter protesters were shot when a group of white supremacists reportedly fired into the crowd. There are currently three white male suspects, one of which has already been arrested. Apparently, this brutal attack occurred because the non-violent protesters were attempting to herd the men away from the center of the rally, without touching them, in order to prevent violence and maintain respect for the subject of the protest.
The rally was supposed to be a peaceful, ongoing event to protest the shooting death of Jamar Clark, who was reportedly killed by police while he was already handcuffed and subdued. It’s bad enough that we can’t seem to protect non-violent black individuals from being hurt and killed by the police. Now we have white supremacists shooting into peaceful crowds of black people fighting for their rights.
You know as well as I do that this could only be the beginning of violence against black people by white supremacists in this country. If these men are not punished severely, it could embolden more racists like them and we could see more shootings and possibly murders during Black Lives Matter protests. We demand that you pursue the maximum possible punishment for these men if they’re found guilty.
