Justice for Man Allegedly Beaten by Police

Target: Ken Paxton, Attorney General for the State of Texas

Goal: Obtain justice for a man allegedly beaten by police despite the man giving himself up.

Austin police have been accused of brutalizing a surrendering man in his own home. Louis Aguilar was in his home with his mother and little brother when the police knocked on the door, trying to collect him for an arrest. A video of the incident was posted online, sending those against police brutality into outrage.

During the process of entering Aguilar’s home, police allegedly pushed down his elderly mother, understandably upsetting him. According to reports, he got aggravated and pushed to help her, which police used to charge him with assaulting an officer. He then collected himself and attempted to submit himself to the officers, asking if he could walk out of the house on his own and give his own hands to be handcuffed. However, the policemen would not budge. They saw Aguilar asking if he could exit his house without excessive force as resisting arrest and allegedly proceeded to push him out and shove him to the ground, punching him while he was pinned down.

The woman filming was screaming and crying for the officers to stop as they beat the man on his own front porch. You can hear Aguilar repeatedly asking if he can walk out on his own, stating that he is not attempting to resist arrest over and over. Sign this petition and demand these officers be held responsible for their actions and do not get away with beating a man who was handing himself over.

Dear Mr. Paxton,

I am writing you today because I am appalled at the alleged actions of police officers during the arrest of Louis Aguilar. Upon entering Aguilar’s home, officers reportedly pushed down his elderly mother, understandably upsetting him. After the altercation, he attempted to submit himself to the officers, asking if he could exit his home willingly. The officers ignored his request and allegedly used excessive force to push him from his own home.

In the video recording of the incident, despite Aguilar repeatedly asking officers if he can exit his home peacefully, he was pushed out the door and forced onto the ground. Police then began to punch the man on his front porch while they pinned him down. Aguilar was charged with resisting arrest despite repeatedly submitting himself to officers.

I urge you to see that these officers are held responsible for their actions and do not get away with their use of excessive force. It is imperative that they are made an example of so that current and future officers understand police brutality is not to be tolerated.
