Target: Robert Bentley, Governor of the state of Alabama
Goal: Demand Governor Bentley revoke his statements saying he would not allow Syrian refugees into the state of Alabama.
Governor Robert Bentley released statements directed towards the people of his state saying that he would not allow refugees from Syria into Alabama. The statements came following the terrorist attacks on Paris, making it obvious that it was a sudden decision made out of fear. Keeping United States citizens safe is incredibly important, but we must remember that we should not let the despicable actions of the few evil people give us a predisposed opinion towards the people of Syria as a whole.
There are millions of innocent, non violent people in Syria struggling daily. Every country has bad people willing to commit violent acts to get their message across. Not everyone in Syria looking for a safer living situation is a terrorist. Denying the people of Syria as a whole because of the acts of few is setting us up to neglect the base values we hold as the United States of America.
Rethinking the screening process and ensuring the safety of our citizens is a much more effective way of keeping our borders safe. Keeping out the innocent people, the starving and scared children and the worried mothers is not a way to treat people who need help. Sign this petition and ask the Governor of Alabama to rethink his statements and give these people seeking a safe home a chance.
Dear Governor Bentley,
I am writing you today because I am disappointed by your recent statements about not allowing Sryian refugees into the state of Alabama. The Paris attacks sent an understandable wave of fear throughout our nation as well as many others. However, the terrorist acts of a few evil men do not represent the state of the Syrian people as a whole.
A majority of the Syrian refugees seeking a safe place to live are not terrorists. When you deny the Syrian people as a whole, you are also denying the starving children yearning for a normal life and mothers fearful for the safety of their families. If the people of your state were in the same position as the people of Syria I am sure you would hope they would lend a helping hand.
I urge you to reconsider your position on the topic of allowing Syrian refugees into your state. By turning away these people in need of help we are turning away from the core values we hold as the American people.
