Protect Stray Dogs from Freezing Temperatures

Target: Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada

Goal: Support plan to build cold-weather shelters for stray dogs.

In Canada, stray dogs suffer cold-weather related illnesses and even die in the harsh winter months. However, a new plan to build special cold-weather doghouses may save hundreds of innocent dogs. Urge the Canadian Prime Minster to support this plan and save millions of outdoor dogs from frostbite and death.

In the northern-most parts of Canada, low temperatures can range from -10 to -30 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter. Stray dogs living outside in these conditions suffer greatly. They often lose their ears and feet to frostbite and the very young or old dogs may even freeze to death. Thanks to the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), fewer dogs will suffer and die due to cold weather. The activists at IFAW have come together to build specialized outdoor doghouses throughout Canada. These doghouses have thick wooden walls and floors, flap doors to keep the wind out, and securely shingled roofs to provide shelter from rain and snow. The doghouses would be placed in the coldest areas of Canada as well as the areas where stray dogs are likely to congregate.

IFAW has done an excellent job of gathering volunteers and rescue organizations to help build these essential shelters. However, the cost of supplies and tools is great. Volunteer and rescue organizations do not have the necessary funding to build enough of these shelters. Urge the Canadian Prime Minster to support this essential project and fund the building of shelters for Canada’s stray dog population.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Prime Minister Trudeau,

Stray dogs in Canada are suffering due to bitter cold temperatures and harsh weather conditions. They sustain frostbite, which often leads to the forced amputation of their feet and ears. The younger and weaker dogs often freeze to death before winter is over. IFAW, an animal welfare organization,  has found a solution to this problem. They have gathered a team of volunteers to build outdoor doghouses throughout Canada. These houses are made of heavy wood with flap doors and strong shingles. They are designed to keep the wind, cold, and precipitation out, thereby giving the stray dogs a greater chance of survival.

IFAW needs your help to continue this important project. We urge you to show your support by assigning national funding for the doghouse project to save hundreds of dogs from certain suffering and death.

Sincerely,
