Target: Robert J. Zimmer, President of University of Chicago
Goal: End business relations between the University of Chicago and Oak Hill Genetics due to Oak Hill’s animal abuse.
A laboratory in Illinois, known as Oak Hill Genetics, has allegedly been severely abusing and neglecting the dogs and pigs that they breed there. The U.S. Department of Agriculture rarely issues official warnings, however, the neglect and abuse were so atrocious at Oak Hills that they were presented with an official warning.
Piglets were reportedly found with open wounds, numerous scabs, and inflamed necks, ears, and legs. Pigs also had swollen limbs and large abscesses. One pig had a leg injury while another had a build up of fluid in her ear. A dog had a substantial puss-filled lesion surrounded by red, irritated skin. For most of these injuries and infections, veterinary care was not given.
Oak Hill Genetics has many customers including the University of Chicago. Sign this petition and demand that the University of Chicago no longer buys animals from this laboratory.
Dear President Zimmer,
Your university, the University of Chicago, purchases some of their laboratory animals from the retailer Oak Hill Genetics. However, Oak Hill Genetics has recently been cited for their atrocious acts of abuse and neglect to their pigs and dogs.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture rarely gives out official warnings, however, the neglect and abuse at Oak Hills was so terrible that it could not be ignored. The USDA issued an official warning. The animals reportedly had an array of injuries and most were not given proper veterinary care. Piglets were found with open wounds, many scabs, and inflamed limbs, necks and ears. Pigs also had swollen limbs and wounds. One pig had a leg injury while another had a build up of fluid in her ear. A dog had a large puss-filled wound that was surrounded by red, irritated skin.
It is clear that Oak Hill Genetics does not care about their animals in the least and all they care about is profit. I urge you to end your business relationship with Oak Hill Genetics. Oak Hill has treated their animals atrociously and you should no longer support these animal abusers.
