Target: Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy
Goal: Stop legislation that will put restrictions on abortion clinics.
The Supreme Court will decide on important legislation regarding restrictions on abortion clinics. The Court must decide whether states can enact laws that appear to be improving health standards at abortion clinics but are actually restricting a woman’s access to them. The Texas law, if approved, would require regulations on air conditioning, plumbing, and staff mandates as well as impose a minimum square footage for the clinic and a specific parking design for abortion clinics. This could greatly affect abortion clinics and could cause many to close down for good. We must speak against this legislation that will make it hard for clinics to operate.
The case, known as Cole v. Women’s Health, will require all abortion clinics to meet the standards of a hospital operating room, which is completely unnecessary. If the Supreme Court agrees that states can use these “health regulation” laws, it could mean the end to a woman’s constitutional right to being able to get an abortion. Sign this petition to encourage Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy to vote against abortion opponents as the vote will likely come down to him.
Dear Justice Kennedy,
I am writing this petition letter to you in response to the Supreme Court’s decision to hear Cole v. Women’s Health. Justices must decide if states can enact laws that seem like they are improving health standards for women but they are actually limiting a woman’s constitutional right to receive abortive care.
If abortion clinics are forced to abide by minimum square footage laws and specific parking designs, many clinics may actually have to shut down. It may actually do women more harm by preventing them from being able to access abortion clinics when needed. We cannot go back to the times in which women were getting illegal abortions across the world or dying because they were forced to use a coat hanger. One in three women will have an abortion in her lifetime. Please do not make a tough decision, and often the only choice some women have, even harder because abortions will still occur even if women cannot access the healthcare that they need.
Women have fought too hard for their constitutional right to make decisions about their own body. I urge you to vote against opponents of abortion and women’s health. It is imperative for the lives of millions of women that you do so.
